ive had my coop 4 days now and i brought it knowing theirs the engine management light on. it comes on randomly but the symptons are drinking petrol like you wouldnt believe and the cat stinks!!! not of egg though and its the same hot or cold engine. i think its running too rich or the cat is knackerd any suggestions?

If the injector light is on, then a fault has been found, either in a sensor or an actuator.
You have a fault in one of:
  • Air Flow Meter
  • Idle Adjustment actuator
  • Coolant temperature sensor
  • Throttle valve position sensor
  • Lambda probe
  • Air temperature sensor
  • Battery voltage
  • Knock sensor

The ECU will record the error, and the easiest thing to do is to get the car to a mechanic who has a code reader. That way you'll know straight away what errors are being logged. My best guess would be the lambda probe.

 ive noticied the temp never goes any higher than a quarter of the way up could this have anything to do with the coolent sensor you mentioned?

oh right. well i can tell you that after a run i stopped to top it up and there was some pressure and steam there so its getting hot

Could be a knackered temp sender unit. I have the same problem on the diesel tipo. Costs about 12 quid or something daft for a new one.

As for your other problem take the advice of HMallet. Get someone with a code reader to check the ECU. Save you hours of time and loads of pounds.

ok thanks for all your help. ive been told its 25 quid for a diognostic test. gotta get it done fast ive put 110 quid in since thursday and ive got less than a quarter left now. its like runnig a bowing 747 mind you they do fly lol

Coupe thermostats do break, and cause the engine to run cold for long. This uses more fuel, and can cause bore wear. TBH, this was my first thought. However, it's mechanical, and won't cause the injector light to come on. It may be that you have a thermostat problem AND another problem though.
As for mileage, I typically find that £50 of fuel gives around 270 miles.

well i had to pick it up from pourtsmouth which is 200 miles from me, i put £40 in and had to fill up when i got home so it sounds about right 200 miles 40 quid? but that was on a long run maybe i should of got more mpg?

About 200 miles from £40 is within the normal range. I found that my car drank pretty much the same whether you thrashed it or mollycoddled it.

well i got a diagnostic done yesterday and was told there are 2 faults lambda sensor and coolant sensor. what is the coolant sensor? wot does it do? any ideas to the cost? they told me the lambda was 75 quid but ive seen a universal one for about 30?

I am guessing that the coolant sensor senses and guages the temperature of the coolant. But i am sure someone would know.

As far as universal things go is a big nono :nono:

You have to understand owning a coupe is no cheap ride, you have to be prepared to pay the costs of owning and running a sports car, because thats what it is a sports car. Going cheap isnt the way to do it at all, buy the best you can afford, standard coupe stuff at the very least.... never just make do

agreed dont get cheep tat for Fiats they dont like it, the coolant sensor could be one of at least 2 either in the header or on the block not sure bout the sports car thing aint they just a dressed up punto hgt :p

well i got the universel version the only differance is the cables have to be crimped together. just got to get coolant sensor next. the engine management light dont come on untill 20 or so miles when i stop so that must be the coolant sensor
