Good Morning All,

Hope the Christmas was good to all.

Here's one to get the grey stuff going again :)devil:)

The first photo is of the clever controller to the right of the steering wheel after I pulled the front piece off. The white/red clip is the connector to the front. (this all so that all know what I am referring to)

Second photo, to the right there is another gadget, what is it? (Third photo is a close up of it.)

Fourth photo: This is the board that comes out of the control panel. Can anybody advised if they spot anything wrong on it? (Not trying to be a wise ass, it is a real question)

Photo No.5: The front of the control panel: If I press buttons A and B or A and C simultaneous, it will beep and the word: MENU will come up on the display on the dashboard. No matter what buttons I press on this panel after that will have any impact. If I press button A (on its own) while the lights are on the front fog lights will come on.

I also noted that there are no back-lighting on the panel, accept if I press one of A, B or C, then the back-lighting will come on while I hold the button in. On releasing it the light will go away.

Now for the big question, what is wrong with it?

Maybe related to this, but the radio will reset itself to default settings (Bass: 0, Treble: 0, etc) every-time I switch the car off. Not the end of the world, but I am getting a bid pissed-off with resetting the thing every time. Any ideas on this?

May 2012 be good to all the Forum users.

Thanks,

Gerhard

Sorry boet, I don't have a clue but perhaps if you separate the photos with a description under each, it may be easier to understand what you need. Bit of a PITA having to scroll up and down the whole time.;)

Gerhard my comments are:

"...another gadget, what is it?..."

I don't think this is a gadget, just a connector built into the wiring loom that on your model is unsed, because the device it's intended for is not fitted to your car.

"...If I press buttons A and B or A and C simultaneous..."

Why would you? Each button has a discrete function and they are not intended to be pressed down together.

And sorry, I have too little knowledge of PCBs to comment on the board.

hi gerhard.
the 'gadget' i think could be the multi plug for the full glass roof control that may not be fitted to your car.

theres no damage to the tracks on the PCB, really need a vew of the other side to dertermine any physical damage, its possible a resistor has blown or chip has failed but there is nothing physically wrong with that side of the PCB.

you radio resetting is a common fiat wide issue. it happens because there isnt a permenant 12v feed to the head unit, you will need to wire one in! i've installed mine so that both the red and the yellow wires have a permenant feed, this means i have to turn my headunit off seperately from the ignition.

the standard head units get their 'off' signal through the CAN lines on the car so its not an issue but if you have an aftermarket HU some wiring modification is required.
