We are trying to start our 2002 Multipla petrol but it will not start.
When starting, the engine turns but it does not fire, like it is not getting any gas.
In addition the key-code-ligth in the dashboard dosen't come on at all. Isin't it supposed to come on for a short while when starting the car??

We have checked all fuses we can think is related to this problem and all are fine.

We are waiting for the key-code to be shiped from Italy but it is taking an awful long time.

Is anyone here who can help us??!!

i would disconnect the battery before doing anything else.you can try it.maybe works

I had a 105 ELX Multi with two keys. One worked fine; the other ate batteries. Fit a new battery, no problem but within a couple of days due to some internal short the battery would be flat. Before trying the "disconect the car battery, wait a while then reconect and hope everything resets to default" trick it might be worth fitting new batteries to the key fob.

How weird is that mine suffered the same thing last night. It has happened once before about a week ago. But you turn the key it turns over and yet doesn't kick in and go. That said leave it a while and try again and off it goes right as rain.

If its the same as mine I have been advised to use the spare key for now as it is an electrical problem, probably caused when the key is getting a bit old (my multipla is a 2002 JTD) or with the relay. My mum has an Alfa T reg I think and had the same problem replaced the relay* (*not that I know what a relay is) and all has been fine since.

At worst take it to a fiat garage, but whenever I take mine there there is always an extra zero in the bill.

Probably not relevant to this post because your key light didn't come on, however may be useful if someone searches this thread.

If you have left your petrol Multi standing for any period of time (usually over a month), the hydraulic tappets can drain down and prevent starting. The power on the starter is not enough to pump them back up again. So, simple solution is to get a tow and jump start in 1st gear. Works great in very little distance.

I get this now and again with my 03 JTD.

Try jump leads as well as even if the batt is just a little low some of the systems wont be happy , have you had a knock in it ? there should be a fuel cut off switch in alfas they are under the pass seat but think they are under the bonnet on multi's worth pressing it a couple of times as a mates alfa one was triggered when he slammed down the rear folding seat.

ours did this once and it needed a new battery. The original battery lasted years! Apparantly the immobiliser kicks in if the battery is low! sounds odd but we've never had the problem before or since
