got a bit of a problem with my fugly. the gears started getting a bit stiff and not engaging a few weeks back when i was driving home so i thought new clutch time. i managed to get it home and it is now on my drive. its booked into a garage to get the new clutch tomorrow morning but the problem is, its in reverse on my drive and will not come out of reverse. i have tried it with the engine running and switched off but the gearstick is not budging. i will be able to reverse it off the drive but i dont fancy reversing it all the way to the garage :) any ideas on what i could do?

just been picked up by a recovery truck so its all ok now. he managed to get it into neutral too with a bit of persuasion :) looks like its the gearbox and not the clutch so looking forward to a nice big bill tomorrow, just in time for christmas!!!! yay :):bang::bang:

just thought i would ask while i am on, whats the going rate for a new gearbox on a multi? just so i can prepare myself...... the garage i am using is pretty good and they quoted £339 for a new clutch fitted which i didnt think was too bad, considering its about 130 for parts and the air con has to come out to do it.

 Try for a re-con exchange, a new box will be horrendously pricey, a clutch should go in at the same time... I'd prepare to remove over £1,000 from your current account... :(

ouch.... will wait and see what they come back with. hopefully it will be something repairable, like the selectors or something. im not usually that lucky though :)

Think lucky... be lucky... hope it gets sorted without too much financial pain.

well i got the call and its gonna be £712 for a gearbox and clutch. problem is its nearly xmas and i only paid 900 for the car. plus the mot is nearly due and it needs work on the rear suspension. think its gonna have to go on ebay and see what it fetches. the gearbox is completely out now so its just gonna need to have a new one put in, with clutch. if anybody is interested give me a shout :(

its a w reg, 1.6 elx. black with red trim and 17 inch 5 spokes :) the mrs is still trying to talk me into getting it fixed cos she likes it so much so we will have to wait and see......

right, its been decided that its getting fixed. was digging through its history lastnight and it only had a brand new gearbox and clutch 20k ago. seems like it could be an expensive car to run if its gonna need it doing again in another 20k........

it was in 2005. dont think it was a fiat dealer but it still cost them £1800 for gearbox, clutch and a few small bits:eek:
