General multipla radiator fan

General multipla radiator fan

Had that on mine about a month ago, all the fuses checked out, but there was no feed to the fan.
The cabling had all chafed where it was routed near the rad.
I soldered and heat shrinked the wires back together.
My fan only works on it's high speed. But I'm happy with that, need the aircon this weather.

Do you have Air-Con Eric?
If so, the Fan should come on when it's selected (with Engine running).

If it works with the A-C, but not when the coolant temp gets 'high', then it's most likely the temp switch in the Radiator (being a FIAT, it might be somewhere else of course ).
If you can find the switch, with the ignition on, unplug it and short out the two pins/sockets (in the loom-side plug), it should run.

Re: Multipla radiator fan

I have heard that the resistor in the fan motor is a common problem for the low speed not working.

thanks I will check the wires tomorrow when I am off, let you know what happens.
also I think the switch is on the right side (stood facing the engine) I will try all suggested thank you all for the advice.

I wasn't even aware the Rad-Fan had two speeds!
Is it 'Low' for Engine Cooling and 'High' for Air-Con?

That could be a reason the engine management reader couldn't run the fan in low speed......It hasn't got one! :bang:

Are you sure though?
I'm not.

In the three and a half years we've had our Multipla, I think the cooling fan has kicked-in all of...once!

I bought mine in September last year, I noticed this May that the aircon was not that good in town.
That's when I started digging around and found the wires all cut through.
After repairing it, My mate hooked up his computer and the Fiat software said it had a two speed fan, nothing happened on low speed, I assumed there was a resistor in the fan motor, but I haven't looked.
So from September to May, I drove around without a radiator fan and the temp gauge never went above 3 bars.
:D

Normally Low for AC and minor cooling and High for increased cooling if nessecary (and although not applicable to the Multi, for DPF regen on cars fitted with a DPF).
