Has anybody had problems with noises from the front end on smooth (ish) road i think i may have worn anti roll bar bushes (cant replace bushes only have to buy the whole bar from main dealer if so)

Are there any specific conditions, i.e. turning, breaking etc... I agree with the above, 99% going to be anti-roll bar bushes, could also be track control arm bushes. Also check the break calipers aren't moving undeer breaking (if you are hearing the noise under breaking) I have heard of cases where calipers have come loose, and move around!!! - This happened to a friend of mine, and the caliper fell appart on the M1

Well after living with it for a couple of months (after changing the drop links(made no difference)). With the help of a second person to gently rock the car i could feel play in the anti roll bar bushes which cannot be changed!
A few months later New roll bar fitted noise was now better!!! More rocking play now felt in the offside lower droplink (7months old/8000 miles) Just replaced it now! (unit free of charge from the motor factor shop)
Now all is quiet but for how long??

Hi
I have been down this bumpy rattling road since buying our 51 jtd, after weeks of trying to source noises figured it was anti roll bar bushes (not avilailable)so fitted new bar complete by my local non dealer man(Fiat and Alfa specialist) To replace said bar you have to disconnect drop links which I had bought two anyway £16 each but only replaced one as they were ok so still have a spare. What a difference!!!!!
Quiet motering at last
Now for that sunroof rattle!!!

anti roll bar was £140 fitted

I also have a knock at front of newly acquired series 1 (petrol). I had it up on the lift at local Kwik-Fit and neither their engineer nor I could see or feel anything loose (they suggested roll bar bushes before they lifted the car, so must have some experience of this). Were we going about checking the bushes the wrong way?

Riding as a font passenger, I think I can feel the knock through the floor on nearside.

Also, probably unrelated and probably normal; There is some play in the top mount of the strut inserts in the engine compartment. I've never seen this before, but then I've never seen the top mount come up through a rubber bush. Is the play just normal flex in the bush? Could the knock be related?

i`ve got a mk2 and after the recall it knocked like hell so when it went back they found that the `drop links` on both sides had worn ( i think dammaged by them when changing the suspension) now on noise whatso ever   :) :) :) :)

the only way I found it was the anti roll bar bushes was buy jacking everything (front end) off the floor getting undernath with a pry bar and moving linkages about it took a while but when you put your hand on the rubber bush on the roll bar you can feel it knock.
before solving the problem it did feel as if the knocking is just under the floor and i even had all the centre plastic stuff out from inside the car!
We have also had front springs replaced now with that recall. Fiat managed to shear off a linkage on offside front shock while doing this and and very kindly (with a little persuasion from me) fitted 2 new front shocks free Result!!!!!!
So i now have new springs, new shocks, new anti roll bar 1 new drop link and it is as quiet and tight as new!!
