Technical Multipla Instrument Swap

I've got two 'plas, a 2003 JTD115 and a 2000 JTD 105. Anyone know whether the clever late instruments with the trip computer etc will just fit straight on to the earlier wiring loom (yes I know I can take them both off and try, but I'm just asking).

I'm guessing it's not as simple as that - although Fiat do have form on this - I put a rev counter from a Sporting into an sx by just cutting a hole in the dash for the connector which was dangling, unused, under the dash.

I suspect it's a smart alec ECU thing and a dozen more sensors. Any thoughts, or is it down to me to find out? lol
