Just bought a second hand Multipla (1.6). Great car, but one problem with the folding mirrors.

They either seem to work intermittently or not at all.

I have tried to reposition the mirrors, folding them in/out manually and then trying the button in the cabin, but there seems to be no logic.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Have you experienced the same problems

Thanks

Hi,
We have the same problem. We only bought the car yesterday and it worked hen but stopped doing so today. Being an adventurous type, I took it off and dismantled it (not easy) and found that when you press the switch, the voltage to the motor that swivels the mirror, changes polarity i.e. the negative and positive leads reverse polarity. This is true of the 12V feed from the car and also to the motor. In between this feed from the car and the motor is a little black block - a controller I assume. It seems to be the problem, If I bypass it (quite easy because the input feed connector also fits into the motor input feed connector) it seems to work fine.

I'm a little wary of leaving it like that. I'm not sure exactly what the little black controller does but without it I might be sending nasty inductive spikes back to the electronics in the car. So I need a controller. I've checked he internet but found nothing yet. I bet the dealers won't sell these separately

Incidentally, you have to remove the small mirror to get to the screws that hold the mirror together. I didn't manage to remove it without breaking it. It's stuck on with a huge sticky pad. If I had to do it again I'd heat the mirror with a hair dryer to loosen the glue. The screws are Torx heads BTW.

So if anyone knows where to get a controller I'd be grateful.

This is well documented and is a complete pain in the a*se!
They are contolled internally by a block of plastic full of electrickery, and corrosion sets in and it all goes belly up! If you have a warranty it should be covered and NO...they as yet are not repairable! We have tried!

Last time i calle they were £158.00 each with the aircon temperature sensor in!

Thanks, removing that black box worked for me..... Much cheaper than the £90 on ebay - 15 minutes and done.....
