Multipla JTD 105
Total system failure at speed.
Fuel injection light on just before all the others but to be honest not too sure as trying to coast safely to side of road ( no brakes, no power steering). 20 mins later the sod starts up again! This has now happened 4 times. Local garage with good rep for tech diagnostics has failed to diagnose. With local dealership hourly rate @ £97.00/hr i'd like to give them some direction....
Can anyone help and tell us where to look?
Have you had the same problem?
Intermittent self correcting faults..... Horror:cry:

£97 p/hr! jeez where are you located, standard rates are £40-60.

I'm in Lewes near Brighton. The £97 is inclusive of VAT - but still puts me off having another Multi / Fiat again.

Too far away mate;)

Not my place to say who is/is not good dealer but does seem expensive for one hour, are other garages(of other makes)the same price? There are 7 Fiat dealers within 20 miles of Brighton, try another!

Anyway,Jeezer how about a bit more info on your fault.

You just gotta try some garages till you find the best one really :) plus people have different opinions on whats good, with your knowledge you would expect very high standards T14086 ;)

Exactly, garage staff change all the time aswell.

Not high standards Ozzie, just doing best for customer.A good tech will try his (her) hardest to rectify the fault even if it means trawling through service news/diagrams/tech bulletins...& have a good think about the fault insteard of just 'putting the light out'.

tell your dealer to check the phase sensor and the rpm sensor these are the only two that can stop the engine dead
all other sensors are replaced with a subsitute value by the ecu when they fail
also both these sensors are bolted to the engine and could fail at temprature and internaly reconect on cooling

I see what your saying but going by what info has been provided a Fiat dealership would of extracted a error code for either of these,or both,'synchronisation' error.A non-dealer would(should?)of also extracted a error using code reader.

Then again is a 'good local garage with rep for diagnostic' a Fiat dealer? Had more than a few phase sensors faulty on these & they are a git to change, belt off(might aswell change tensioner/belt while there)and not cheap.

not all fiat garages have the proper diagnostics some just have code readers and they will only tell you about present faults wich is no good for finding intermitent faults

the fiat dealer i work in has the full fiat diagnostics kit and i can tell you it is very very good if yoused properly it can call up a history of faults stored in every ecu in the car

i also work with kia's and they have some of the worst diagnostics stuff in my opinion

a good idea whould be to call up some fiat dealers and ask them if they have a fiat exsaminer if they say no they have a snap on or sun or something just hang up and try another

also another problem with this engine wich dose not show up on the diagnostics is the anti run on flap in the inlet manifold on the right hand side of the head shuting due to a faulty solenoid
if you get someone to hold it open (wich can be done easily with no tools as it is easy to reach) the next time it stops this might give a clue as to the fault
