ok, i made a post here yesterday about the exact same problem, and it was answered by a member of the forum names "lefrog"...... it was about my fiat multipla cutting out after a short journey he told me it was the crank sensor, which i am going to change soon, but, apon speaking to my stepfather about the car, he told me he has had it on the dinostics, and it came up with a error code which is the fuel pump, but it does not show anything about the crank sensor, could this mean i need to replace the fuel pump, or, could this mean my crank sensor is on its way out and its showing that the fuel pump has a error, because maybe the crank sensor is connected to the fuel pump ?? i don't know, can anyone help out here for me please,

thanks
Kenny.

I don't think the crank sensor is connected to the fuel pump, I believe the crank sensor inputs into the ECU and the fuel pump is controlled by the input pressure to the common rail injection system - again, all controlled via the ECU

I stand to be corrected should I be wrong.

Ok Mate, Could it be that my multipla cuts out due to the fuel pump being broken? or could it be a bit of both do you think? Thanks.

Without looking at it its hard to pinpoint problems but:

if the diag says you got a fuel pump problem, its a good bet that you have.
The problem with fuel pumps are normally lack of delivery to engine or lack of fuel into the pump.

Deal with the most obvious first:

Check that you have a good fuel feed from the tank to the pump.

(I had a truck that would 'run out of fuel' at odd distances, it drove me mad for weeks until I couldn't stand it any longer and took the tank off - it was a 1/4 full at the time.
Drained the fuel into a seperate clean container and saw NOTHING!.
Decided to run the fuel thru some muslin cloth - just to make sure - and found a peice of clear plastic, similar to cellophane, upon inspection it turned out to be part of a 'glove' that garages have to keep the diesel off your hands when filling up.
It would float around the tank until it got sucked onto the stand pipe, starve motor of fuel and 'runout'.
When the engine was stopped the pressure would release and the plastic would float around until it was caught again.
How it got into the tank I have no idea, I can only presume that because they are so thin it got torn away from the finger area and fell into the tank.
Refitted the tank and no more problems.

If you have any doubts about the fuel pump performance, take it off and test it.

Cheers
George

FITTED A NEW CRANK SENSOR TODAY ,, I CAN COMFIRM I NOW HAVE A FIXED FIAT MULTIPLA NEXT STOP IS M.O.T AS IT RUNS OUT IN JULY, BUT HASNT MOVED SINCE LAST M.O.T BECAUSE OF CRANK SENSOR PROBLEM, SO IF IT FAILS M.O.T IT WILL NOT BE ON MUCH (y)

I have the same problem, mine cuts out with ecu appearing, re starts after about 2 minutes, then will run for a few days before cutting out. Code P191 is what the mechanic has diagnosed. Changed the fuel filter, but could it be the sensor- I did change this about 2 years ago-Paul
