Hi we have had a 2000 petrol Multipla for 8 years and it has started to blow 15 amp fuse 13 which controls brake lights, indicators, dash lights, radio. We have checked all the obvious connections etc and are running out of ideas. Has anyone had a similar problem or know where to get a wiring diagram from.
I have old alfa so don't mind minor electrical problems but no brakes & indicatirs is the issue. Otherwise it has been a great car. Thanks

All I can think of to help, is to try operating all of the items on the fuse inependently of each other until the fuse blows, i.e. operate the indicators constantly from side to side maybe a hundred times in a row. Just keep switching them across. If the fuse doesn't blow then move on to the brake lights and keep operating JUST them on and off for say two minutes.

Do this with everything on the circuit and hopefully something will blow. If it's say the indicators, then you have a bit of a clue where to start looking.

I would say that even if it looks like being a particular item, test ALL the items on the circuit in case there are two dodgy components.

I hope this is a reasonable suggestion and it helps! Good luck with it.

Hi thanks for the ideas, we have tried that and unfortunately the problems appears to be occasionally only. So far its pointing to the brake lights wiring. Any idead on which workshop manual CD would be best. Regards

Unfortunately no, I haven't a clue about the cd's. I've got one but I haven't looked at it much yet. Another thought is to try pushing any multiplug you see, together. I found two of mine under the fusebox partially undone and one was causing a burning smell!

How regularly are the fuses going? And, stupid question, but is it the right amp fuse? For instance, just cos a ten amp came out, doesn't mean it should have been ten originally. Someone may have put whatever spare fuse they have in.

Sorry I'm not being much help, but if I ave any other ideas, I'll bark 'em out.

Hi Pandabloke,

The fuse is blowing daily, it either seems to last several hours or can go within 10 mins of setting off. I have checked the fuse back to the owners manual and it is 15 amp as specified and I have replaced with 15 amp.

Modern electrics!

Mailed you back.

Oh, and try pushing every multiplug together that you can see and find. I had two that were only partially together. They didn't blow fuses but one was actually causing a burning smell! Particularly the ones by the fusebox under the drivers whotsit tray.

Oh, and disconnect the radio for a couple of days. You don't need that and if it doesn't blow when that is disconnected then you've found the problem.

Unfortunately there's not much else on that circuit you can disconnect permanently, but it's worth a go.
