hi, wondering if anyone can help, i bought a multipla 100 16v on a w plate with the cambelt broken, after pricing up all 16 bent valves and all 16 smashed hydraulic lifters i thought it cheaper to buy a second hand engine and steal the head off of that.

after checking my engine code is 182a4000 i sought a similar engine, which i found in a marea. however now the engine is here ive come across a couple of potential problems.

a) the heads are different part numbers, but look identical, ive matched every single water jacket and oil gallery and they look the same. does anybody know if all the heads are the same across the 100 16v range and this is just a superceded part number?

b) the head that came off the multipla had a phase sensor, which puzzled me at the time as it wasnt plugged into anything. the head off the marea doesnt have.

c) the knock sensor is where i remember it to be on this engine on the marea engine, under the port that the oil filler neck goes into. i cant work out where it should be on the multipla as the screw thread hasnt even been made, its just a blank. the way the knock sensor has been set up on the multipla is comical, not sure how it even ran in the first place.

does anyone know where the sensor should sit? at the moment im trying to locate it in a drilling just above the sump directly below the oil filler neck, but it seems either the wrong bolt has been used or im using the wrong hole?!

also, if both the codes are 182a4000 why are the engines different?

For the part numbers, you could try looking here:

I think it's the same EPER system as linked to by this forum, but I find the forum link to be flaky to say the least - most of the time I get a 'busy' message.

If you put in your full VIN on EPER (somewhere up in the top left of the search page), a lot of the parts information on the system is automatically tailored to your vehicle, including giving details of superceded parts and part numbers.

Sorry I can't help with the other items!

thats a great link, thanks for that. although its only served to confuse me more! i know eper wasnt the most accurate of things diagram-wise when i was with fiat so kinda didnt hold out much hope!

the knock sensor is shown as number 6 in the engine ignition system on eper isnt it? which means according to eper, theyre both round the back of the head on either a marea or a multipla, and they both should have cam sensors?!

confused!

anybody got any ideas on the knock sensor side of this, think ive sussed the other two.
