My 1.9JTD Multipla has recently started to overheat or at least show it overheating on the gauge when i'm on the motorway particularly when the engine is under load. The fiat garage siad it was the waterpump so i had it replaced, however this does not seem to have fixed the problem. I'm not sure if this is related, however, when the engine is overheating the cabin air temp does not increase even when the temp dial is turned up to high - it is always cold. The AA ran a diagnostic and the coolant pressure is fine, the thermostat is cutting in when it should and the fan comes on. There are bubbles in the coolant but these were tested for hydrocarbons and the test returned negative, also no mayonaise around the oil filler - so i don't think its a gasket problem.:bang:

Has anybody had this problem before and know what it is and how to fix it.

I love my Multipla but i don't enjoy driving it at the moment as i'm always looking at the temp gauge.

Thanks

Hello, Seems I have similar problem. My Multipla also overheat on motorway when i drive really fast.
Did you solve your problem with overheating ?
Could you write here, how did you manage this ?

Hi

Yes, the problem turned out to be the radiator, but by the time they worked that out the head gasket had developed the smallest leak - so that needed doing as well and is why the fault didn't show up on the tests. After they fixed that it developed another fault, where the engine would switch to a limp home mode, i had a number of sensors changed and the turbo pressure tested although this helped it didn't solve the problem. The fiat garage were useless- Simonstones in Bristol(n), but my local garage were really helpful and in the end gave me considerable discounts on the work as they were not able to trace the fault - i think they felt sorry for me. In the end the garage owner just said, do your self a favour and change your car.

I spent a lot of money on the Multi but sadly in the end it just wasn't reliable enough and so i sold it and bought a Mazda5 - so far so good(y). As much as i loved the utility of the Multi - which i still miss, i just couldn't recommend it to anyone.

I hope you have better luck then me.

Couple of things jump to mind from when I had a similar issue with a Renault...

a) Have you bled the water system ? I recall seeing at least one bleed nipple on a water pipe on the right hand side of the engine bay.

b) Put some rad-flush in and run the car for a while, followed by a through backflush of the radiator with a hosepipe.

c) Change the thermostat.

Stu :D

Thanks both of you. (y) First I will try to clean inside and outside the radiator. Maybe this helps:worship:. If not maybe new radiator ?

I didn't check this, I left my multipla today in garage to check and clean the radiator. What If water not returning ?
