Hi,

I'm looking for some advice. I have a 2002 Multipla 1.9 JTD 110. My Aircon / Climate Control doesn't get cold at all. The air con light comes on (albeit very faintly) but I do not notice any "lull" in the engine. The fan activates fine. I had it regassed a few weeks ago and it seemed to be cooler the first time I tried it but since then nothing. There is no warning on the dash alerting of any faults.
I have it booked in or an air con service on Wednesday but don't want to waste the £70 if it is something more serious like the compressor.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Phil

Check the wiring, we had a fault on the original Multi which turned out to be just a bad connection on the wiring to the compressor.
With the engine running and some-one activating the aircon, you should be able to hear and feel the compressor kick in, if the compressor does kick in the output should be cold, if it isn't you may have a leak.
As a check, I guess you could directly wire the aircon compressor on, if the aircon then works it proves out the wiring problem?

Thanks, I think I will do that. I had it serviced today and they didn't report any problems but I still can't hear it kicking in and there is no major difference in cabin temp (although the fan temp is pretty cold) They said that they have put leak detector in so if it is not right after a few days to take it back so they can put the UV light on to see if there is a leak.

A similar thing happened to me whilst on hols in nearly 40 degree heat in south of france.
Took the car to a french garage and they said it needed regassing. The charged me 70 euros but still no joy. They said it was the compressor. I brought the car back to Fiat dealers in UK for a new compressor and they looked at it, changed the blown aircon fuse and hey presto - all is ok. Boy was I MAD !!
