Mrs Codger came home the other day with an electric grill, which has never been used. She bought it from a charity sale, but it has no instructions. Now I know with just settings of low to high, or min to max it can't be too difficult, but has anybody used one of these things? When would you use min or max settings, and how long would it take (roughly) to cook things? I could just experiment but I don't like wasting food, or food poisoning, so any help would be appreciated!

We use them a lot, they are great cooking times vary greatly between differing foods and even more so with differing grills.

Sausages always seem to take forever, but steak, burgers or anything flat-ish seems to cook fairly quickly.

Best thing to do is stab a fork in the middle of what you are cooking then if the fork is too hot to hold against the outside of your lip - it's cooked! obviously don't do it with raw meat... 1. it ain't cooked yet duh! 2. you'll be on the bog for a few hours ;)

Best bit is the fat drains out into the drip tray and doesn't fill your arteries.

That sounds good. Is it just trial and error about which heat setting to use? I.E like in a frying pan, if it's too high you will burn the outside and leave the inside un-cooked?
I think I will start with medium and see what happens.
