...I know the Map and AIT are part of the same bit on the end of the fuel rail, but is it specific to the Mpi? or will any other Map sensors fit?

if it is specific, will the mpi punto map sensors fit?

still trying to fix my rough idle and the way the engine seems to top out at 3.5k... feels almost like it's under-fueling - but the garage assure me that it's 100% mechanically sound

got the day off on Wednesday, so gonna visit the scrapyards and try swapping out the map sensor...

If you can't find one, I can lend you one. The fitting apart, these all seem to have 100kpa on them. I'd guess that all NA MAP sensors are 1bar, and that all recent ones are likely to be the 4 pin fitting.

Will see how I get on at the scrappers first, but thanks for the offer - may need to take you up on that :)

Get a pc based OBD2 reader and you can check it in seconds! It'll give you a vacuum reading in the software :)

Kristian

Thought about that - planning on getting a hp ipaq pocket pc soon (got some vouchers & get staff discount so should be a bargain!) - and there seems to be quite a bit of obd2 compliant software out there, only problem is finding the right cable.
I don't have a laptop at the moment, so running directly is out of the question, and I've seen them obd keys which work like a usb disk but at £100 they're a tad expensive considering i'll be getting my PDA for next to nothing ;)

well swopped the map out this morning. Cant say as ive noticed a major change- however engine start and idle seems to be smoother. Yet to take her up to motorway speeds but im gonna give that a whirl this afternoon... Will report back :)

Well, I didn't choose the best oppertunity to go for a proper speed run - this evening in the snow!

However, the results are in!

She will now redline in 1st 2nd and 3rd if I push her (didn't dare rev her that hard before, sounded too harsh on the engine!).
Not too sure about the flatness in 5th at 60 (weather was too bad to travel faster than 50) however she does seem to have more poke about her.

I'm still convinced that my old 900cc cinq ran better at motorway speeds - despite having a top end of only 75-80mph.

Only thing I can think now is that my clutch might be on it's way out - it does feel very stiff compared to other cars, and has had to be adjusted, but that said gear changes dont crunch going up - only issue is massive speed drop out and a serious lack of rpm compensation when downchanging.

Will do a proper sustained 60mph run when the weather gets better - but in the meantime any thoughts would be much appreciated (y)
