Technical MPG gauge broken

I bought an 06 plate 1.6 Sedici in 2009.

I couldn't work out how to switch the MPG gauge from real-time to average. The button to the right didn't do it, but realise it may have been faulty as now the whole thing has stopped working (screen gone blank).

Has anyone else had this problem? Ta.

Try kicking it back into life by switching it to litre/100km and back to MPG. Complete shot in the dark but you never know!

Can't remember exactly how to do it, it's in the manual, but it's something to do with pressing the button whilst the car is in either the first or second ignition setting.

Keep your eye on ebay. There was a brand new complete clock/MPG etc. assembly for sale on there not long ago which didn't sell. Think it was dealer ex-stock. If you do remove it let me know how - I've an annoying rattle which stops when I press down on top of that unit.

I just tried pressing the button whilst whilst restarting the car and it worked.... I've been trying to change this to MPG since I got the car 18 months ago so thank you for this tip.
