Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of selling my Grande Punto as its a little under powered for what I'd like to be driving.

Can anyone out there suggest any decent cars that cost around the 6 to 7k mark that have around 40 to 50k on the clock and have around 1.6 ltr engines?

Was think a golf or jetta but not too sure?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks.

need more info really..,

what age, spec / motor in your grande?,

anything 1.6 - or bigger , petrol OR diesel will outgun a 1242 grande,

BUT it depends what kind of use you'll put it to,

My grande punto is a 2007 1.2ltr dynamic model. Has a 8 valve petrol engine with 55k on the clock. The car that I'm looking for won't be used too much, mainly for the run to work and going to the shops really. I'd also like a petrol engine with a turbo installed, I've always liked the sound of let off valves!

Thanks

the 1.2 really is underpowered in the GP,

I test-drove one, nice car.. BUT S L O W

when I came to buy a replacement for my Punto 2 I went for the Twinair in the new punto,
much better all round than the 1.2..,

and of course it's a tiny engine so good on fuel , tax free , and cheap to insure.. BUT it's turbo'd so when you want to drive a bit harder it has what it takes.. ; - }

MOST cars out there are fine as transport.. but you may well want to choose something you actually WANT to drive / be seen in : - 0

Why not just get a more powerful GP unless you need the space? The M-Jet is great and I'd expect the T-Jet to be the same but with the added turbo sounds

Boring! Don't do it.

On a more constructive note, a bit more info about what you're after would go a long way. With a budget of 6-7k you can have anything from an older bmw with a v8 to a more modern supermini with a 1.2turbo.

Assuming you're sticking with a supermini, your budget would get you an abarth punto. Forget the fiesta, good to drive but pants engines (except 1.0turbo which is too new), the polo comes with a 1.2 turbo but is expensive and that engine isn't so common, the dynamics aren't anything special either. The 207 is far far too heavy and the steering is inconsistent, even if the 1.6thp is a very good engine. I've read good things about the Citroen ds3 thp, but is £7k enough? I'm not sure, maybe. The Mazda 2 sport and Suzuki swift sport are both fine drives, even if neither has a turbo and the 2 has only 102bhp. There's always the mini Cooper S, I think you budget might only get the older super charged model, but many people prefer that engine's character to the later 1.6 turbo. Also consider the Ibiza, it comes in 1.2turbo form and is much cheaper than the equivalent polo (which it is underneath), although they have saved money on the interior.

That's just the superminis!

How did I forget the mito?! A Grande punto underneath but comes with the abarth's 155bhp turbo 1.4 and in Veloce trim has brilliant brembo 4pot brakes. Your budget is spot on for a nice one.

Try a Toyota Corolla T Sport - 1800cc engine with lift. Bought one for my wife for £2900 with 47k miles. Docile as you like around town but welly it and above 6k revs all hell breaks loose. Get a facelift model and it has some nice goodies and is a Toyota. It is a sheep in wolves clothing and it can be nicely specced up to make it handle better when you are really pressing on. Why spend 6/7k when there are some very, very good cars out there for a lot less. Insurance might be a pita though.

I'm the owner of a 1.4 16v bravo and I'd recommend it, mine doesn't have the turbo but by how mine performs I reckon the tjet would be quite nippy.

My mrs has a 1.2 active grande punto which me and her also drive and agree the bravo feels a lot stiffer then the punto.

In your price range you'd pick up a nice one and it's a lot rarer then a golf etc.

My previous car was a 1.7 CDti Astra j and the bravo costs the same to run with around the same 0-60 and top speed but your less likely to see one coming towards you lol.

Hope you find what your looking for

Go for the 1.6 bravo pick them up for good money I myself would go for a 2 ltr one
