I am getting different answers to whether I can have my MOT done say 1/3/07 and they'll date by the registration date/date MOT required of 13/3/06...new certificate 13/3/08. Or do they have to date it 12 months from the date of inspection? The UKmot.com website also agrees with no forward dating yet one garage told me they can?

You can have a car MOT'd early by up to one month. If your MOT runs out 2/3/07 then you can have it tested from 2/2/07 onwards and will effectively end up with a 13 months MOT. You can't arbitrarily forward date an MOT test.

If the last MOT was a computerised one the new MOT (provided it is also a computerised one) will automatically run from the expiry date of the previous one.
If your last MOT was not computerised then you need to take the old MOT as proof, the new MOT will then be set to run from the expiry date.
