Hi all as the title suggests failed MOT..today...

1, Require OS & NS rear brake hose..tried shop4parts but dont do them.. has anyone any ideas on where to get them from...

2, Anti lock braking system warning light does not illuminate.???? on checking would appear the LED is cloudy i guess its blown... Can they be changed??

3, Hand brake has excessive sideways play... can this be adjusted or is it a replacement.

cheers

Karl

if its the handbrake lever that moves sideways then it can be adjusted from under the car there is 2 bolts that hold the lever in place just tighten them up should sort out the problem

the brake pipes can be made if its the metal part or go to the breakers and get them if its the flexi part you should be able to get it from your local motor factors

and as for the abs light i think they are leds so cant be changed so might mean a new instrument panel

cheers

Hi, i dont suppose anyone would have an instrument panel from a MKII Bravo 1.8 lying around??..

Has anyone tried to replace dead LEDs from a panel before, ive taken mine out and can see the point where the LED is soldered into the circuit board, i have a soldering iron and am half tempted to have a go...

Its easy enough. Get a de-soldering pump. Push the button down to depress the spring. Put It as near as you can to the solder then heat the solder with the iron.Opperate the vacuum on the pump by pressing the button on top of it.Might need a couple of goes before it removes all the melted solder. Before you remove the led make sure where the anode side is because anled will only work one way. A link for the pump

UPDATE

ABS light - I cant beleive what i found when i tried to unsolder the LED from the Instrument panel... the previous owner\garage i bought the car from have obviously gripped the LED and twisted it so that + & - meet and disable the bulb...

Anyway i replaced it and now it illuminates but does not go off, have dianostics done sat...

Whats the most likly cause of the ABS Light staying on (sensors??)... bearing in mind that its obviously been faulty for the the last 4yrs and but has only just failed MOT this time round.

All other MOT failures have been fixed/replaced ie Brake hoses/pipes

its either going to be one of the 4 sensors or could be the actual pump itself
when i purchased mine my abs light would stay on when engine started but after driving about 100 yards it would go out again then after a few miles come back on. mine turned out to be the pump but i was lucky as i only needed to change the top half of it as the circuit board had gone inside and they later kelsey haynes units come in 2 bits

Hi, i have changed the ABS unit and ECU, and since then i have had my hand brake light on constant (this is not caused by the HB Sensor as when the hand brake is released you can see the light dims a little) so i assume its something to do with the ABS light being on???

yes it has its the same thing i had abs light and handbrake light on the mk2 models they had ebd and that is indicated by the red handbrake light so if it stays illuminated it means you have an ebd fault which also shows an abs fault so chances are it will be the abs pump again

Hi Andy, because i have disconnected the ABS pump and ECU and fitted a different one im assuming that i would need to have the system reset via a diagnostics, before i could discover any retained faults ie sensors. Would i be right in thinking this?

the abs system resets itself if all parts are in working order you dont have to get it reset if it a sensor fault

cheers andy

Thanks for your reply's Andy, can you recommend anywhere for a replacement pump..

If what your suggesting is correct then the pump i replaced mine with (which was off a scrapper)is either off a MKI and non-ebd or dead.. and my original pump must have the ebd fault as my HB light would come on and stay on 50-100 yards after setting off.

This is going to be expensive.................

hi mate it depends on what pump it is as there is 2 different types of pump there is the kelsey hayes and i think the other is bosch as long as it is the same pump it shouls not matter what model its from i think with the bravo/a its standard on 1.8 and above my old brava elx had the bosch pump and they very rarely go wrong its mainly the kelsey haynes ones that fiat had a problem with.
i would search the scrappers for one and then get the whole lot i.e the pump and all 4 sensors that way you could change the lot that would then rule out hopefully those parts.it could also be the front cv joints if they have been changed at all they could of replaced them with none abs ones which would then produce the fault as the sensor has nothing to work with there is nothing really at the back that could cause a problem other than the sensors so i could concentrate on the front first

cheers andy

Funny you should mention the CV Joint i had the O/S one replaced probably a bit before the HB light stayed on if i remember correctly the cv joint that went in was off a MKI which has the ring with the grooves on it. The mech at the time said it wouldn't cause any probs obviously it has. So i'll start there and then the front sensors and finally the pump...

The pump i have on mine has the following on it..

FAIT 464 ******* (rest of No's cant be read)
DE
Ate 10.020******

I cant see any thing that would suggest its BOSCH or the Kelsey Haynes pump.??

I also found this one which looks to be a more assured replacement for mine.

do you have msn mate
if so email me your details and i will add you

the numbers on the pumps have to match exactly or they may not work you might find if the cv joint was changed he may have damaged that sensor when replacing the cv joint so i would look at that first you should be able to get them from a scrappy.
