Hi, im a Newbie.

Recently purchaced a Seicento sporting abarth, i got it ready for the MOT & it failed on emissions.

The results say the fast idle test CO % is too high the max limit is 0.300 & the actual was 0.605.

It passed the HC, max limit is 200 & actual was 29.

It passed Lambda, max limit is 0.97 & actual was 0.996.

The second fast idle test the results were CO 0.542.

HC was 8.

Lambda was 0.990.

On the natural idle test the CO passed.

Has anyone got any ideas what i can do to fix the problem, i drove the car about 8 miles to the test centre so it was quite warm & prior to that the car hadnt moved from my drive since xmas

Any help welcome

Cheers Keeny

Hi, i did a service on it, new oil, filters, spark plugs..i dont realy understand the results ..is it way off? or would a bottle of red ex & like you say a bit of abuse on way to retest sort it??

We get this problem all the time at work with cars in for mot and we tend to take them for a good hard drive using the whole rev range to get it red hot and 99% of the time its works a treat(y) cheap easy fix:yum: and welcome to the forum...

I think It was you that told me that old trick andy :p my missus had a 206 that was a bit high on the emissions took it for a blast down the back roads and told the mot man that it had been sat for a while and he let the car pass (always handy to know the mot man :D )

triple check the vacuum hoses on the back of the throttle body, check they are all fitted correctly and then follow them checking for cracks/leaks.
If they all ok then yes, a good thrash as suggested. Ask the MOT man to do the emission test as soon as you arrive at the testing station while the CAT is still nice and hot.
