Most reliable variant?

Most reliable variant?

just depends how ye treat em, if i had a new cambelt put on before xmas i would not have had to deal with fitting a new engine! after visiting the scrappy yesterday i'd say 1.4 (there were 5 with busted engines) but then its just not that easy to say... but then i'll always feel a bit biased towards my 1.8 ;)

I'm biased too, I think the Bravo was a lovelly design it it's time but it's old now and unfortunately they're flimsy at best. Unfortunately.

Well my Bravo 1.4sx has needed nothing doing except wear items or stuff I smashed myself like clutches or wishbone arms lol.

And it's 10 years old in a couple of months and has nearly 100k on the clock.

I refuse to accept that the 1.4 is unreliable. It may be slow and uneconomical but not unreliable, or not more so than others.

Too many JTD owners and others need MAF sensors all the time. That's a fault right there.

And the supposed oil problem thingy. I change the oil every time I service which is every year or 10,000 miles and I still haven't had problems. I don't even know what brand is in lol. So much for replacing it every 2 weeks.

/Rant :)

There's usually an exception to every rule; looks like it's you in this case.

Bravo reliability

Well, I've done 40 thousand in my 1.4 with no bother. Consumables only required.

Cost me next to nothing to buy, I get 35mpg which is bad for a 1.4 but not bad in general.

Happy, but probably the only Fiat I'll ever buy unless they lift their game.

sorry to put a downer on all you 1.4 lovers but i think its the most unreliable i have had to put 2 engines in mine since july last year due to the problem with the oil mate of mine has had his 1.2 for three years and had no more than wear items to replace.

At the end of the day the reliability of the car is down to the owner!!! its impossible to do nothing and just expect it not to go wrong!!!

if you look after your car it will look after you!!

i always say to every one. even if you dont know what you are looking at in the engine bay IT WONT HURT THE CAR TO LOOK!!! chances are even if you know nothing you can spot a problem even if your not sure you can have it checked!!!

there are 2 reasons why a car goes wrong 1. general day to day wear and 2. the owner missing service intervals and driving it bad!!!

the 1.4's wouldn't have a problem if the drivers checked the oil feed to the cams!! we know its a week point so check it regularly (every week!!)

ok the maf's on the jtd are crap and the 1.2 gb but they normally last pretty well wimmy did 100k on a 1.2 box! i know andy and tommy both drive there cars hard!!! and there gear box's and maf's go! (im gonna get some comments from that one :))

Reliability

Change your oil frequently and I reckon 1.4's are okay......

Ash, no comment here mate, whole heartedly agree with that one mate, i do drive it hard and ive had plenty of grief with the Gear box, but other than that she has been sweet as a nut, regularly serviced, by myself now, which i would never have done, but the engine ios spot on.

cost

my 1.8hlx costs about 850quid a year in maintainance costs, that includes consumables, it includes everything i've had done on my car. (i've saved a few hundred in the 2.5 years i've had her by doing bits of work myself) i've owned mine from 59k to 84k miles and its a 98s

hope that helps

And no other problems that you haven't told us about? Trim not falling apart? No gaskeys gone? No water leaks? Alarm and C/L all OK?
No rattles and Knocks? No electrical faults?

I'll show my backside in Harrods Windows if you've never had anything go wrong with it!

RR, i'm with Zenith. i had no problems with my 1.4 except a cambelt tensioner nearly going at 70k.
all the rest was wear and tear, brakes, exhaust etc
my 1.8 has needed a new gearbox(and clutch done at same time), which is £700 down the pan straight away. my 1.4 never cost that much in maintenence in a year and a half, never mind one month!
