ok, my HU has 4 pre-outs (?) front left/right and rear left/right. thing is im wanting to run a set of components aswell as my 6x9's and front speakers.

the components, as you know are two speakers, two tweeters and a pair of crossovers.

how do i get extra wires for the components to be plugged into HU?

and

how do the crossovers work, do the tweeters wire to them so that i wont need extra wireing for them?

charlie

EDIT: basically i want to add a set of components to my already existing set-up

not quite mate. You have 2 pre outs. left/right count as 1.
You dont need any extra wires, you would use the rear preout for the 6x9s and the front preout for the components.

Components work by you having a wire from the Headunit/amp to the crossover. This then has separate cables going to the tweeter and the woofer.

so you could set that up quite easily

cheers

thanks syphon,it all confuses me, will have two pre-outs then lol.

if i use the front pre-out for the components then how will i keep the 10cm speakers at the front working?

the crossover will need one wire (postive and negative - being one) to 'power' the comp. speaker and tweeter on each side, right?

cheers

i made some speaker pods for the uno, they go next to parcel shelf and house 10cm speakers. the reason im askin is am gettin my cinq end of next month.this month and am wanting to put comps in it with my 6x9's. (sowi forgot to mention tht bit) thats why im thinkin rear door cards! lol

i aint really too sure bout running an amp, is it necesarry to? what power rating of the amp would i need? am guessing would be a 4channel one too?

as has been mentioned, without an amp, you wont be able to run more than 2 sets of speakers...

AND, an audio best soundstage is to come from the front (wonderful scentence structure there  ). Have all the speakers in the rear will sound crap. The mid and treble need to be pointing directly at you. Its only bass that you can really get away with having anywhere as the ear cant determin its soundstage.

so if i ran front 10cm and comps. , with no 6x9s, what would the sound be like then? will a still need to run an amp?.

on the subject of amps how hard is it to wire up to car and hu? and how will i expect to go about doing it?

cheers for all the help

amps are straightforward - power lead going from positive terminal of the battery with an inline fuse going to the +12V on amp, RCA lead from HU preout to amp, remote from remote lead on HU to amp, earth lead from amp to a clean bare metal point on the car body (i.e. a bolt with paint around it removed)

Headunits can be less straightforward - it depends on the state of the wiring in the car.

You should be OK running 2 pairs of speakers off the HU - though the sound quality would be better if you used an amp.

The main difference is that components have the tweeters separate to the mids, whereas a 6x9 would have it all mounted as 1 unit. Components are generally regarded to be better than coaxials (which 6x9s kinda are)

so they are almost the same in some way then, what if i were to use 6.5" round speakers instead of the comps. or are they worse?

with the amp, would i get away with using a 2ch one or would 4 be better? i understand as if i want front speakers (pair) and 2 pairs of rear speakers i need a 4ch is that right?

If they are coaxials, then they are generally considered worse than components. Having said that, it depends on what speakers you are comparing. (i.e. an expensive set of coaxials will probably be better than a cheap set of components)

Yeah if you want to amp both pairs of speakers then either a 4 channel amp or 2 2 channel amps would be needed. You could, of course, use the HU's internal amp - the sound quality won't be as good as with an external amp though.

im thinking of swopping my 6x9s for comps and upgraded fronts. then when i have enough money invest in an amp and run the 6x9's too.

im going to be usng fusion audio products, my 6x9s are fusion and i am amzaed how much better than other makes which friends and family have (y)

thanks for all the help guys!!
