Technical more problems!

Hi all, well my car seems to have corrected some of the earlier faults itself, not sure how, but seeing as they're now gone, i'm not complaining! Anyway, we now have a new and rather annoying problem. The immobiliser appears to have malfunctioned completely, so there's no way to start the engine to see if the original problem (car cutting out randomly) has been rectified. When I put the key in the ignition, it says engine immobiliser fault on the display screen, the engine turns over but will not fire. I've been searching through other posts on here for the last day and a half, and I can't find any information about whether it's possible to bypass or turn off the immobiliser, and how to do it if it is. I've got the codes and whatnot for it, but I haven't got a clue beyond that. If it has to go to a fiat dealer to be done then so be it, but I don't really want to pay recovery costs of getting it there if they can't do it. Any info or help here would be geatly appreciated.

Is this a mrk 2 ulysse diesel or petrol? If it is if you lock the car leave it for a couple or mins unlock and open the door quick can you hear the feul pump tick tick tick??
I take it everything else works o.k mirrors windows radio etc? Try the spare key? If not re-marry the key to ignition and try that. Get the fuse box( under the bonnet) checked if varied intermittent electrical faults. Specially if you just washed it or its been raining heavy and the car faults then.

it's an 04 reg, and it's diesel, manual, 2.0 JTD. The doors and mirrors all work fine, it's just that it won't start. The fuel pump isn't priming at all and it keeps saying immobiliser fault. Oh, and it decided to go into economy mode yesterday aswell, while yet another guy stood there looking at the open bonnet and scratching his head! lol.

Economy mode is battery low stops you running it to flat. Try This Unlock car put key in ignition turn to first position (battery light comes on) press and hold door lock button. Turn to second click but dont try to start keeping lock button pressed. leave for 10 sec in this position then turn back to off position. repeat three times Then try to start as normal Good luck!

I've already done that, and the battery is fully charged too. It was charged overnight last night till the meter read full. And leaving the battery disconnected didn't help any either. It's still in economy mode, but it's been in that before and always comes back to normal once the engine is started, except that we can't start the engine because of the immobiliser fault. Do you know if it's possible to bypass or turn off the immobiliser?

Immobiliser I believe cant be bypassed.Have you had the fuse box under the bonnet checked This is the main fault for intermittent electrical problems. You have to remove it and open it up to check for corroded circiuts/connections?

yeah that's been done already and it's fine, and everything else has been checked numerous times. It just seems to be one of those endless mysteries! lol it's even been into a fiat dealer, who said, and i quote "sorry love, we don't know why it's doing it" to which i replied "well you made the thing!", but yeah.... anyway, do you know if i have to get a new ecu, someone told me that the immobiliser was actually in the ecu and if it goes then i gotta get a new one.

Well after much dithering about, I've caved and it's gone to a dealer, although not a fiat one. I went into Glyn Hopkins in Romford about it and after telling me they wanted nearly £200 just to diagnose it, and I had to get it there myself, I told them they weren't touching the car! I was talking to them for nearly an hour about the various problems it's had over the last few weeks, and I swear I could see the little dollar signs in his eyes. Without even looking at it they told me it's gonna cost me a minimum of about £1100 to diagnose and fix. I asked how they could possibly know that without looking at the car, and the guy just grinned and said, well we work on these all the time and we know what it is already. I asked them how come they needed the diagnosis then, seeing as it would save me £200 and he didn't have an answer. I came to the conclusion that they really don't know what they're doing. So I rang Peugeot at Basildon, who came out, picked up the car and are going to diagnose it, all for a modest £80. Much better service from them too, and they do really seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to this car. Will let you all know as soon as I hear from them.

Well, I didn't believe it myself at first, but Peugeot called yesterday, and my car is all better!!! Can't really describe how happy I was at the news! Now for the problem....

After spending countless hours checking every inch of wiring, all the on board computers and god know's what else, they found an earth wire that had come away from the body computer. This was replaced, however, the ecu had completely fried itself and the immobiliser was locked on. They put a new ecu in it, reprogrammed the body computer, and hey presto, car started, and ran, and didn't cut out! It's now done a little over 200 miles since yesterday afternoon, (well I had to road test it extensively! lol) and all is fine. There are no more annoying messages telling me the anti pollution system is faulty, or the airbags are faulty or the braking system has failed, or anything else for that matter. In fact the car seems to be running better than ever. In the end, including the supply and fitting of a new ecu, the total cost was a little over £700, and considering that Toomey Peugeot actually came out and got it, and had it for just under 3 weeks, I thought that wasn't too bad! To be honest though, I really would have payed more than that to have my car back, and stop driving that heap (17 year old proton!) that my mother lent me! lol

we knew its was body comp area as we said we gave u approx figure based on if it needed body comp etc but couldnt give u price until we sorted it.
glad peugeot sorted it for u at cheaper price
