Just after some advice, my 2000 sei sporting has intermitant power steering. Whe it fails if you switch off the ignition steer to full lock and restart the car is fixes it for a day or two.
I have purchased a seconhand motot of ebay for a tenner and there is a second hand ecu as well but not got that yet. What do you think it's most likely to be. Cheers Iain

It wont be the motor. what happens is the grease inside the column dries out and the shaft which is in two halfs with pressure/torque sensors between binds. ecu detects this and shuts off the pas (if it never, you would has the motor trying to turn the wheels fully left or right.which would not be fun on the road)

Sadly the part of the column we are talking about is totally sealed.
the only thing you can try is to look for any holes in the column (thru the bearings or anything) jack up the front of the car, then with one of them pound shop lithium grease spray cans with little red straws.
inject a load of this grease into the column while turning the wheels from lock to lock.

but first check all your connections.
