Hello everyone I’m Pete, but call me whatever you like so long as it’s not late for dinner!👍 Sorry about that but one needs a SOH after owning and driving land Rovers since 1978 - some people (me) never learn. I still have one, a 2007 td5 90 being one of the last td5’s before the “trannie” engines were installed. I love it but over the years it has earned a well deserved nickname, “Marmite”. My moment of madness came when I bought a 2013 Panda 4x4 twin air - they look like fun courtesy of YouTube and Pedro the Panda along with others.
There ain’t a lot I don’t know about LR’s, but I ain’t got much of a clue about this Panda 4x4. Previous owner was a clueless self professed mechanic. When it failed its MOT for fractured front coil springs he went and installed replacement struts and coils. So, what’s wrong with that? He fitted ones from a standard Panda!
You couldn’t make it up!? There is/was much evidence of lack of maintenance and “bodge work to be dealt with that I’m slowly dealing with including change of all oils and thats where at the moment I’m coming unstuck. No problem with engine oil, but the 3 Tutela oils for gearbox, transmission idler unit and differential were eluding me. I’ve now found and ordered Tutela Transmission gearforce for the diff but can’t locate the other 2. Can anyone help with that? Also, owners hand book on these oils seems to imply that the oils should be be added by weight??? See photo.

shop4parts do all the oils. There is a tech process to diff oil change. Do a search. Its this year. The 4x4 oil pump in the diff needs actions to prime it and a further top up after. Not hard but I suspect important as the diff has very small capacity.

Thanks for that info, now ordered Tutela Cross for the diff. Could you now possibly give me a heads up on the priming method. Also, if possible clarify if the oils are added by weight or volume.

They quote oil by weight, presumably because they are totally *!*! mad. Maybe Italians order beer by weight too. Its less than half a litre 463cc comes to mind. The attached tables in these posts give conversion factor. There is a Utube video somewhere on draining the diff by some guys in Portugal I think. They dont do it correctly but its interesting to see as the diff has a double bung on the drain. Probably first section is the gears and second the pump chambers. When filling it needs to be run no load and the pump allowed to prime I think then you top up. My local garage wont get involved so I am shortly to do the thing myself but its a few weeks away yet.
