It's a while since I posted a problem......but then I've experienced German reliability for at least 2 months :D Or been spending time on the Stilo pages

Anyway I've had a very loud continous moaning sound at lower speeds akin to a worn bearing. It's bad. Anyway I've taken the car up the garage and all trace of it temporarily went. They tell me they can't c anything. The noise goes when brakes are applied + but is there regardless of in gear/neutral etc.

This has co-incided with a shimmy through the accelerator pedal, like something's looser than it should be. But I take this to be the engine mountings which I think are on the way out.

I told the garage NOT to fit 4 new struts I bought... until we knew the what the problem was....but they did anyway :bang: so I'd welcome any ideas suggesting the problem is not serious. Or that it is....in which case I have a plan.....

Cheers

I'd look at the brakes ,make sure the pistons in the calipers are not sticking/draging,give them a good clean. If you go for a drive feel your wheels after a draging disk will be hotter

as for the shimmy sticking pistons may warp disks? does on bikes!

If i'm wrong i'm sure someone will put me right:devil:

Its a v good point as in the past the callipers/pistons have got bunged up i.e. pads squeaking away until you press the brake pedal then quiet, with consequent heat build up.

They never made a moaning sound though. It does sound mechanical, but I'll look into this. I don't think it's the wife, moaning occurs when I'm in the car and she's not. Because typically I'm not actually going anywhere. :D

It can't be belts, cogs, tensioners, I did them perfectly. On the 99th attempt.

Deffo car movement related, and the other side from the gearbox also.

It will be interesting to see wot the car is like with 4 new shocks. Will it go round corners....after 8 years..... or not.... - either way - it will still be moaning.

If you have an Idler Roller it might be this.

Its that Roller that bends the Alternator belt Upwards. These are a common fault on the Tipo's that have them and they usually just fall off at random causing a break down.

next time I get someone under the bonnet it is getting removed, I've had enough. I got mine refitted and its been nothing but whining from the moment I turn the key.

Tipo TD's are hard on their hubs. Bearing can wear and weld itself to the hub, and cause all your problems. Jack the car up drivers side. Start car, put into gear and turn the wheel. Dont forget to chock a rear wheel though.
