hello i have a mk1 60 sx 5 door v reg and i am wondering what could be the cause of the petrol reading so low wheni know i should get atleast 50-60 out of it and it currently has about 30 mile on it now and it is reading nearly empty what could the cause of this be ?

50 - 60 what?

How many litres did you put in to get 30miles done?

Is the temp guage sitting in the middle or is it not going up? Thermostat stuck open or seal has failed, causing lower MPG.

How are your tyre pressures? 28- 30 psi

When was car last serviced?

50-60 mile

7 . sommit i thnk i put in £10

the temp guage is sitting at the quarter mark

it has just had brand new rad and therostat

tyre pressures are 35 in front and 33 in back

i changed the air filter and spark plugs couple of month ago

My 60sx gets around 70 miles from 10 pound
U could try fuel filter might help or fill up at a cheaper garage

Has it ever had the head gasket changed? Holes in the exhaust system will give you crappy mpg also a head gasket on its way out will.

is the exhaust blowing at all? to test stick a Wet Cloth over the exhaust
The engine should ""choke"" and stall

if it seems to run fine - then its blowing else where

I had 5 cracks/holes in my middle box and a couple of holes in my Mani-cat
I ran at around 32 to 35mpg AT BEST

Had the repairs done - sat above 45 again :)

all of he exhaust is fairly new :) but i stuck a bit of cloth down there he other days where the downpipe meets the manifold and it had the most minute blow but i dont thnk that will affect it apart from that it runs fine it isnt lumpy

would if affect the car if it was low on oil ?

i always check the car for oil when its cold :) and the brakes on the back shouldnt bind as the handbrake hardly works :p
