A ride into the wilderness in the Pandas.

So after being talked about for a while I am proposing a spot of "soft roading" for us all. The general idea would be to make a day of it, I know a few sections of moor top lane which would be great for both 4x4 and 4x2 Pandas, with additional great views. The start of the day would not be early to allow people from further away to get up here. Or there is space for a few of you to camp in our garden if you wanted!

This is not the thread for the actual event yet I just want to round up some interest and ask a few questions...

1. How many people would be happy to travel up to where I am for the drive out? In other words are there enough of us to call it a proper Panday? We are junction 50 off the A1 then another 10 minutes drive west - Masham, North Yorkshire.

2. Would you guys be happy to take your vehicles down some green lanes? Bear in mind I would never take anyone somewhere that your vehicle would get damaged - it would be steady away, no rush and at your own pace.

3. Obviously I am new to this so should the new Pandas group on the forums be included?

4. I would be looking at running this event one weekend in August, either 10th,11th, or 17th, 18th, or 24th, 25th - how would this work for people?

I would not recommend driving the route planned in a lowered vehicle but by all means come on up and catch a ride in my car or with someone else. I would ask a couple of my mates to come along in Landrovers just in case and also my friend who is a photographer to get plenty of pics. We could end with a drink and maybe some food in one of the surrounding village pubs.

Depending on the outcome of the discussion I will do a proper thread and post the exact route up.

So what do we think is it go or no? :)

Yep, sounds good to me, (y)

Hopefully I can source another front bumper so I don't have to take the chin spoiler off :D

Or shot gun in a 4x4 ( I'm great for rear wheel ballast sat in the back )

It's such a picturesque part of the world even those that don't want to green lane should come along to enjoy the scenery and be amused by Panda's being pandaish in the wild.:slayer:

I'd love to do it, but will have to give some serious thought - google maps is saying 4 hours, so make that 5 in a Panda with comfort breaks - 5 hours each way plus driving around

18th August is MitCar near Derby so several will be signed up to this, and I'm going to CarFest South on the 24th :woot:

That only leaves the weekend of 10/11th for me, but it's a big trek - can you guarantee some proper weather as I definitely wouldn't survive in this heat :dead: I guess there will be a Premier Inn around somewhere, so I'll start looking if it's the w/e of 10/11th.

Great stuff guys it sounds like 10th and 11th weekend is the one then for now :)
Palio we have some accomodation in the village the nearest travel in (style) place is on our a1 junction i will look into local prices for you and anyone else that is interested as it would be fab if you could come

Does any of you know any of the new panda lot to see if they want to come?
CLS John i think we should have a spare bumper kicking about i will have a look

i will have to see how my wallet feels.. after this trip to looe (if i make it back OK ;) ) i will come along.. suspension is not as bouncy as i thought it was. so i think i will be up for another trip

i will have to check the dates.. i know i have a camp set up some time in the next month so will have to check up.

Aww don't spoil(er) the fun - I was sort of relying on CLS's mods pretending they were fitted by Renfault or Peugrot and randomly/comically detaching at inappropriate times

I fear i'm too low for this sort of thing :(

Although i would not advise anyone with a lowered car to come along i'm positive there would be a spare seat for you in another car :)
Dragon Man you HAVE to come and give Talon a work out, my suspension is shafted at the moment too - just ordered the new stuff for the big lift though

I may be able to make it....but it would be in this.

Hmmmm, wonder if I can find some standard springs. Maybe some ebay seller with an MOT failure will decide to advertise a set at a competitive price.:chin:
Quite fancy the challenge of getting GW green lane ready. Slightly going away on holiday on the 14th though so funds might well be an issue.
...Maybe.

I'm game but I have no idea what my plans are for August yet. It's all a bit up in the air. So I will leave it to fate but if I can be there I will! Need to get some off road experience with the 4x4 even if it is relatively soft. I've done bits and pieces some woodland trails and got stuck on a sand dune which taught me a few lessons (oh and snow of course!) but more practice would be good in case I go off to the Amazon or something crazy :slayer:

Will try to keep an eye on the plans!!

Si

I don't think my spine will take the long trip upto one of my favourite parts of the country, in a 750; nor the green-laning, sadly....

If I still had my Isuzu 'Panda' Bighorn (special black-and-white edition, obviously...), I'd be there in a flash (well, an Isuzu, anyway...). :D

I hope you all have fun, though; and that the weather gods smile on you.... (y)
