Misfire Under Acceleration

Hi All

I have a 98 1.6 Bravo which all of a sudden has started to misfire under acceleration. It only does it in the low rev range. I have changed the spark plugs about 3 months ago so I don't think that can be it. It sounds like its backfiring through the exhaust.

Any ideas?

Did it do the same stuff befor the new plugs ???
Like Tom said, leads or the plugs arent the ones you need or are malfunctioning

Thanks for the response. It has been running fine with the new plugs since they went in, until This week then overnight this started happening. And no it didn't happen before the new plugs.

Sorry I meant to add that I think I'll try changing the leads. Is there anything else it might be though?

thats really weird, my bravo (1.4) startin doing exactly the same thing last night, mine misfires on idle, its fine with about 1500 revs but if you rev it up it backfires like a f**ker - as in the whole car shakes and its as loud as a gunshot.

taking mine to mechanic tonight, i'll let you know what he says, im hoping its HT leads (also had my plugs changed about 3 months ago). Could be many things, could even just be crap fuel.

i can confirm it sounds like the HT leads!!

I got my 1.2 fixed for the exact same thing yesterday. didn't know what it was cos i had checked everything so just put it in - they fitted 4 new leads for £70 so can't argue with that, they also did an overall service style check on everything which was good!

Seems the general thought is the leads. Funny enough I tried it this evening and it seemed fine. Interesting John how you ahve the exact same thing going on. Be interested to here what the fix is for you

hello, just got back from the garage, an HT lead was dead. he opened the bonnet (which i hadnt even bothered with - as i only discovered the problem last night, in the rain), an we could hear the sparking. So he put a spare in, and it works fine now. took 2 minutes!

hope the problem is the same for you an nothing more expensive.

i need a full new set of HT leads now, where do i get them from?!

i have " It sounds like its backfiring through the exhaust " this problem also but when i let off the gas. When i'm accelerating it's fine. The sound is like on some sports cars when they let off the gas,like bubbles from the exaust. I heard the same thing on here when someone posted their exaust video after fitting new backbox on 2.0 20v. Since mine is also 2.0 is this normal for them ?
