TBH I've heard the same about the KV6 lump being a bit more reliable on the old HGs. Are they still that silly silocon stuff?

Ironic really as wasnt it the old 6 pots that had the system where is didnt cool the engine till it hit temp, then put water in there to keep it at temp. Great idea in theory, warm engine fast but the sudden change in temp cracked just about every component it could!

Not really that ironic, its just I'm using my 'word-a-day calender'

its a completly different engine though!!
KV6 shares nothing with the 4pot K series
i've worked on both enough to know they're more than just a little similar. if you made a 3pot k series you'd have half a kv6. why do you think its called a kv6, meaning a v6 k series?

thats true, the 6pot had a thermostat that opened too late so the sudden temp change would pop the head gasket, and in some winter cases even cracked the head. but yes, it did aid quick warmup of the engine.

i can give you some first hand experience on a zs180 in one word (excellent) never fails to impress me! owned for 3 years now aalongside a rover 214 and a fiat bravo 1.6sx! the reason for the head gasket failures on the four pot is the stupid steel head gasket rover used with rubber beading round the outside once that has been changed for proper one the engine a decent unit! 103ps from a 1.4 16v produced from the early 90's! fiats 1.6 in the bravo is only making the same power! to be honest my rovers/mgs have been far less trouble than the fiat!

So in honestly, wat does everyone think of them? I've just bought an 04 MG ZS 180 Facelift model, 8k on the clock, all the works for £6800. So far I'm liking, feels steardy and no rattles and as randomman said the 5th motorway gear is excellent.

Chris@souls where abouts are you based in MK? as i live in essex and only a couple hours drive away so if i have any problems would rather see a rover specialist than some back street garages. Do you suggest anything i should look at or to check? as i thought with low milage there cant be that much wrong. Got 3 months warrenty with the garage i bought it from and it just had a service, but only filter and oil change.

Belonged to an old man who bought a new car for himself and the missis and she always drove everywhere so traded it in.

Nice looking example you got there and a damn good price as well.

I really liked it when I went out in one, I would have it over a subaru anyday (as in the real world, money matters!) For every case of someone having a problem there are 100 that have had a trouble free ride, I hope you enjoy it... and the noise it makes and the smile it induces...

(You didnt buy it cos of my review did you? Lol!)
