HHi all,

Right been looking into it for ages now and think iv finally got me head round how to build wire and set one up....I goin to be usin it on a 1.2 8v engine....just want to know if I have to use the old existing ECU at all or if the MS completely replaces it also for reasons of imobiliser ect...?

Thanks for the help
Brin

Ah I see thanks for that...and yeh I got a good idea of what needs doing now...I hope lol

Sorry should have said punto 1.2 8v turbo conversion

Im goin to run it off MF2 to start with but wanting it on a MS tbh as im planning it all out atm

A MS installation would be so much cleaner not having to double up on sensors and injectors ect....

It seems a lot simpler than I had first thought to actually wire up the MS

Thanks for all the help guys
Brin

Trigger wheel (and crank sensor) works in exactly the same way as on your stock ECU. It tells the ECU the engine is turning, allows the ECU to work out whern to fire the ignition and the injector(s).

Although the Ford pattern trigger wheel is the aftermarket ECU default as a rule, they all seem able to run on the FIAT 60 - 2 pattern.

Yoy can therefore use your existing trigger wheeel and sensor, or, as others have done, fit a more reliable hall type sensor (and use your old trigger wheel).

Just saw Arc's post. If you do have a FBW throttle, you need to hurl it into the bin and fit something else.

I've just picked up a MGF 1.8 VVC Inlet Manifold Plenum + Throttle body for 40 quid delivered. No idea what I'm going to do with the injectors and fuel rail, mind, but they'll come in handy for something.......... and if it turns out to be FBW, I've got an orthodox, old school one knocking about somewhere.

If your car is canbus, there may be other issues, but nothing, I'd think, that can't be overcome.

Nah mines throttles on cable mate not fly by wire...I will probs consider makin a custom manifold and hold a larger throttle and injectors mate

I see about the trigger wheel so the stock crank sensor and triggerwheel on auxiliary crank pulley will be fine just needs mapping

Thanks for the help guys seems a lot more simpler now I shall crack on with it soon as I have some spare cash....it's a slow project as I now have another car to drive round so just take me time bit of work on the weekend :)

yeah, it's easier (imo) than a lot of people expect. Have a gander through the massive megasquirt thread. Any questions, give us a shout (y)

Wow!! Been looking throughout that theard for a good while now it's well confusing seems confusing reading that haha

Errrm what I got into me head was that basically anything that is on your engine bay wiring loom is rewired to the megasquirt and old ECU in bin....also ignition, live, earths, fuel pump

So all sensors (crank, coolant temp, map, TPS ect...) coil pack, injectors and basically all.plugs on the original wiring loom and then have the megasquirt programmed or mapped?? Am I very very wrong??
