Bravo Meet my Black Beauty

Introduction

Hey guys.

So, Yesterday (Saturday 10th November 2012) was the day. I finally waved goodbye to my beloved White Knight, my 1999 Ford Focus 1.8TDDi Zetec which I have owned for over 8 years. And I picked up a Black Beauty - a 2008 Fiat Bravo 1.4 T-Jet (150) Dynamic.

So here are some snaps:

Bye Bye Focus :'(

I am happy with the new car though. Even on my first day, I have managed to upset a boy racer in a Corsa. I think what I love most about the car, even beyond all the "boys toys" it's loaded with, is the fact that from behind it doesn't show off any hint of the performance available. So, when a chav in his corsa thinks he can out-accelerate me off a roundabout, I can let him get almost level then floor it. :-D That will NEVER get old! (incidentally, I should point out, I didn't break the speed limit ;) Unlike chav in his Corsa who didn't like getting burnt, so he eventually flew past me, all 12 valves of his 1-litre engine begging for mercy)

Only problem I have found so far with my Bravo is that the headlights are truly terrible on dipped beam, so my first investment will be a better set of headlight bulbs.

So, yeah, very very happy. After 10+ years of driving, I now finally have a car with a decent turn of speed, and a bucket load of gadgets. And more surprisingly (to people that know me anyway), it's the first time I haven't been in posession of a white Ford! (well unless you count the maroon Daihatsu Fourtrak I ran for 8 months alongside my Focus - I used it as a hack to get to work, keeping the Focus clean for taking it to shows at weekends).
I must agree with the dipped beam. Since its been dark early on I've noticed how extremely bad they are. The other day I bought some of the Philips xtreme's and fitted them in about 5 mins. Made a massive difference!

I know the feeling, I changed all 4 for Nightbreakers :D

Be warned the passenger dipped beam is a b*****d to get your fingers in (n)

Welcome to Bravo ownership Chris (y)

All 4? Headlights/sidelights? Or are the dipped/main beam different lights?

They are different, the main beam are the inner pair.

When you do the passenger bulb watch out for displacing the earth lead - tis a right pig to get it back on, and anyone nearby can make a fortune if they have a swear box !!!

Oh right! I need to buy another pair then! I assume they are both H1? Must have only replaced dipped beam then.

They are indeed H1s,

I brought 6 so I could replace the lot and have spares, the nightbreakers don't have a great life expectancy :( although the new nightbreaker+ are supposed to be better (crosses fingers)

Welcome to the Fiat Forum. I have to ask whats up with the twin exhaust on the Focus - Really? Bet you didn't get much part ex?
Dont chav up the Bravo its nice as it is.
Also i bet the bloke handing over the keys felt a berk having his picture taken:D

Admittedly the twin exhaust looked a lot better when I had a bumper skirt fitted. I fitted a standard bumper back on for trade-in though. The extra length on the tailpipes brought them nicely just to the edge of the bumper skirt, but they just looked stupid without it! As for why - looks, basically. The back end of my Focus had been converted to have two rear fogs rather than one, and I had a central reverse light. It looked lop-sided with a single exhaust, that's why I got a twin exit made up.

Nah I didn't get much part-ex (£400), but I expected that. It's a 13 year old car which had almost 209,000 on the clock, so getting anything more than scrap money for a trade-in was going to be an achievement. Hence why I put so much of the car back to standard - I've a dose of parts to sell off, some rather desireable in the Focus community, so I think I should get a decent whack back that way. But, I paid £3,500 in 2004 for her, I've had 8 years/82,000 miles of 99.9% reliability (she broke down only once. In an expensive way, I admit, but she only let me down once!). I think I've had more than my money's worth out of the car.

No plans to do much to the bravo, just keep her clean and shiny and generally in tip-top condition. Plenty of money spent on Auto Glym products :) I want to put a K&N air filter in, purely because they are re-useable - just wash, re-oil and refit. Cheaper in the long run than changing normal paper elements. I may also obtain a LHD reverse light to make both rear bumper lenses clear, and I'll bung a red bulb in for the rear fog (common modification on the Focus). And I think that tinting the rear windows (not too dark) would just finish it off nicely. However that may never happen - I always wanted to do it to the Focus and never got it done!

Found another slight problem with my Bravo - the passenger wing side repeater is broken so doesn't clip into the wing. After a trip along the motorway, I found it hanging by it's wire. I've put a little blu-tac on it just now to hold it in, going to phone the garage tomorrow morning and see if they'll supply a free repeater. If not, it's no big deal, a pair is only £15 on ebay.

And my "spare" remote key doesn't actually have a battery compartment, it's been removed/lost at some point. Again, ebay may come up trumps with a listing for a new key body which includes the battery compartment...

The salesman was an absolute gent though, he was happy to have a pic taken, even giving my mate tips on how to take a good picture! Certainly can't fault the guy, or the dealership as a whole - was all a very pleasant experience.

I have noticed that about the passenger light! It seems that the screenwash filler just unclips, I assume it'll just slip out the top of the bottle, and I'll be able to move that out the way? If that's the case, it should be a doddle for me, I've fairly small hands!

Quite pleased to see they're all H1 bulbs as well, one less type of spare bulb to keep hold of!

It does move out of the way, but it's still naffing tight to get in there (n)

Fiat most have a thing about changing bulbs on the passenger side, my old 2005 Panda was also a right cow

I felt sorry for the boy at Halfords lumped with the task of fitting bulbs this afternoon. Someone had employed him to fit the headlight bulbs in an older Ford KA - a female dog of a job at the best of times, but this particular example had Morette headlights fitted! The boy seemed to be getting rather fed up with it! :D

The Focus was a bit of a nightmare once it had double-barrel headlights fitted. The original H4 headlights weren't too bad, but the aftermarket ones I had fitted for a long while actually required the headlights taken off the car in order to change the dipped bulbs. Was worse still with the MK1 Focus facelift headlights fitted!
