hey i have a Fiat uno mia 1108 1998.
i really enjoy the car but lately its been giving trouble.. the fuel filters keep cracking:bang: and sucking air causing the car to starve of fuel.. well so i thought last night i broke down and it would not start. keeping a spare filter:slayer: i changed it and still no luck(n), testing the fuel pump in the tank seems to be working well.. i have come down to the "mechanical fuel pump." that in the pic.

IS this a big job to change?
what are the symptoms?
is it expensive?
does anyone have a guide?

im from south africa(for prices)

Hi,
It's a VERY straighforward thing to fix,

undo 2 x hose clips , then undo the 2 securing nuts ( bolts) , Pump should almost fall off at that point,

refit the new one ,

there may be a gasket between the pump body and the cylinderhead , otherwise use a liquid sealant , retighten the 2 nuts and hose clips = you are good to go,
( DO check for leaks - straight away , then every few days while it's all "NEW"),

symptoms of a failing pump are often a poor fuel supply ( obviously),

when mine went it would quit running - coast to a stop , but restart instantly and run fine - then after another few minutes , quit and coast again, this cycle repaeated until it jus wouldn't run for more that a couple of minutes.

it's such a realtively cheap and simple thing to change I would do it anyway = I'm not sure what has been cracking the filters though..!!,

Charlie
