I have a 2004 Fiat Punto Active 1.2 3dr. When i turn my ignition on there is a unfamiliar symbol on my dashboard. At first its stationary but then starts to flash. It looks like to me a child in a child seat in a seat with a line through it or something but i know its going to be something totally different. Does anyone have an idea of what I'm talking about and what it is? Or does anyone have a link to different dashboard symbols that i can try to identify mine from? The colour was flashing yellow too.

Thanks

its the deactivation warning light for the front passenger side air bag for when you have a child seat fitted not sure how to switch it on or off in a older punto

as for what it means when it flashes time to dig your handbook out (y)

Thanks for the quick response. I'm glad its nothing to do with the engine or anything majorly technical. There's a key hole on the side of the airbag that is supposed to active/deactivate it so i will take a look tomorrow. Thanks again

Hi,

If the light is stationary when the ignition is turned on, then flashes for about 5 seconds before going out and STAYING out for your journey, then everything is FINE.

When the ignition is first turned on, the light comes on to check the correct functioning of the warning light itself and the air bag system. The Flashing is to then draw your attention to the fact that the passenger airbag is ACTIVATED incase you have your childseat fitted and have forgotten to DEACTIVEATE it.

IF however, the light STAYS on, then it means the passenger airbag is DEACTIVATED. OR there is a fault in the passenger airbag system.

Hope that helps,
Alan

Yeah that ^^^^^

It looks unusual when this orange light starts flashing but all Mk2 and MK2B Puntos with Passenger Airbags do this when the airbag is switched on. My Stilo does this aswell. It only needs turning off (using the key activated switch inside the passenger door) if youre fitting a rear-facing child seat. Otherwise leave it on.
