Hi im new to the forum and wondered if any of you guys can help me out! :)

Im buying a new ignition barrel and locks with blue keys and red key. Im going to fit them myself using the good ole Haynes manual. I was just wondering if, because i have central locking at the moment, by just replacing the lock barrels am i right in thinking i will STILL have central locking?

Another question is that i will be supplied with both blue and red keys, when i install the locks etc, do i turn on the ignition with the red key first (to reprogram) and then use the blue ones from then on?

Thanks

Saino!

Its a 96 punto 55 SX.

No i do not have remote locking, just wanted to make sure i would have the normal central still (not up to scratch on these things :))

Im replacing the locks because the drivers side door lock has already been replaced, and so i have to use two keys (one to get in, one to start ignition) and also boot lock is knackered so have to use the inside catch to open it all the time. It would just be nice to have them all working. Also i only have one key for the drivers side door, worried if i loose it i can open door!

I thought the imobiliser was in the ignition barrel? So if it was turned by anything other than the key it would lock in place? So surely new barrel with have the same function?

Arghh Help lol! :)

right well you can do it fine then.what oyu need to do is open your old keys and remove the transponder chips(little glass viles)and put them in the new keys.
that way the immobiliser will still recognise the keys even though they are different keys.
make sure you put the red keys transponder inside the new red key and dont mix it with a blue one.
theres a steering lock mechanism thats affected by the key but the immobiliser detects the chip inside the key via an induction loop you will see around the ignition barrel.(black wire)

you can also fit a performance chip called a mkritch chip to your car.check the cinq faq's in my sig if your interested

Only problem is i dont have the red key for my old set of keys :( (oh dear!)

So basically by changing all the locks, i would gain the added bonus of using one key to open up everything with a spare, and the red key becomes useless then??

Cool thanks for your help matey! Cleared up alot of things! (y)
