My 1997 fiat marea weekend 1.6 16valve will start but i have to keep the revs up around 1000rpm to stop it stalling, of course when i change down gears (and up sometimes) when the revs drop below 1000rpm or so the car just stalls. I have read many other peoples threads and replys to threads and have noticed this is a fairly common problem with these engines. At first i was thinking fuel filter, or even fuel pump, now im thinking .. dirty idle control valve shot air flow meter .... i am taking it into college in 2 days to try and find and fix the problem .... however if someone knows pretty much what it could be and what the fix could be i would GREATLY appreciate knowing very soon!!!
I have also noticed that my spark leads (at the end that attaches around the spark plug) the rubber seals are all cracked all the way up the side .. i was thinking this may be spreading the spark onto the engine block rather than directly to where it needs to go causing some issues .. wether it is related to the stalling problem i dont know? If so then of course they need replacing ... if not would you still recomend i replace them?
A swift reply would be greatly appreciated!
(sorry this is a bit of an essay but i figured if i gave you guys all the info first time round it would save us all alot of trouble)
Cheers!
