IM AMAZED AT HOW MUCH FASTER THE MAREA 2.0 20V HLX IS THAN THE BRAVO HGT,I WAS EXPECTING THE BRAVO HGT TO BE FASTER THEN THE MAREA BECAUSE OFF THE WEIGHT DIFFRENCE,AND ALSO IT SAIDS IN THE FIAT CAR PERFORMANCE SPEC THAT THE BRAVO HGT IS O.5 SECONDS FASTER THAN THE MAREA,BUT IT IS WRONG BECAUSE MY MATE OWNS A BRAVO HGT AND MY MAREA KILLS IT OFF THE MARK,I THOUGHT HIS ENGINE MITE OFF BEEN SCREWED OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT,BUT IT WASNT BECAUSE I GO TO CARDIFF CAR CRUISE EVERY WEEKEND AND THERE ARE PLENTY OFF BRAVOS HGT THERE AND MY MAREA STILL BEETS THEM,SO TO ALL MAREA 2.0 20V OWNERS YOUR CAR IS FASTER THAN THE HGT,COOL HAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not so!

Two cars, same engine (2.0l 20v)one set of lights and one line to wait against. Lights turn green and your both off. Your mate might have slower reactions than you and a slower gear change, so if you've got the same engine with a quicker start and slicker gear change no wonder your beating him, the extra weight comes down to 0.5 of a second in the book so if you start 0.5 second quicker than him and your gear change is 0.25 seconds quicker by the time your in 4th your two seconds in front!!!!!!!!

Also how many mile has your car down and your mates, is your engine looser than his, is he using all his revs, or is he holding out to long (i.e after the power band - red line). It all comes down to the individual driver. How much wheel spin are you and your mate getting, he'll probably get more as the cars lighter.

(JUST for the example someone with a VTR could keep up with a VTS down the lanes if it were put into the right hands, yet it has 40BHP less than the VTS)

In other words it all depends on whose behind the wheel, a good driver who knows his car or a crap one who doesn't!!!!!!!!

On the other hand you could be quite right-but theres lots to think about.

Happy thinking.

not just my freinds bravo hgt but other hgt ive betten!!!!!!!!!

yes steve i agree that it depends on the driver, but may i say that my freind is quite a good driver,im no better than him,and hes no better than me,but like ive said i go to cardiff car cruise alot, and i tend to see alot off bravo hgts at the cruise and have raced a few and my marea has still beteen them off at the lights,so i really cant think off any more reasons to why its faster??

p.s steve are you the one ho answered my question a few weeks ago on a other page about what size alloys would fit on the marea??????cheers.

Yes

MMMMM intresting, i'm glad you didn't get offended by my points of view and came across with a simple answer to my queries (unlike some other memebers of the forum who have been here before).
Might just be one of those strange things? it doesn't add up on paper but i supose it doesn't count on paper - on the road it counts!

Yes i am the Steve who replied to your alloy wheel question - i should of put 17's with a 205/40/17 tyre and a drop of -35mm safely after the wheels. You could also use a 215/40/17 tyre but the speedometre may be out a little (0-4mph)

Cheers - happy racing!

hay STEVE you are a cool guy!!

thanks for answering my questions on the wheels for my marea,it was a big help, hope you can answer some more questions about marea when i need to,um i think thats it,hope to speak to you again, cheers steve, bye bye.

SORRY... NO CHANCE WITH A MAREA VS. HGT !!!

Sorry Pal;

That's quite impossible...

Same engine,
Same gear ratios,
Same transmission,
Heavier body (!)

Sorry again...
Well,I agree that it depends on the driver; the one behind the wheel...

But still u don't have a chance if *CETERIS PARIBUS

*Ask it's meaning to the economists, bankers etc.

SORRYY....!

THAT DOESNT MATTER IF THE MAREA IS A BIT BIGGER,E.G FORD MONDEO ST24 V6 IS SLOWER THAN THE MONDEO ST24 V6 ESTATE WHICH IS ALOT BIGGER THE AN THE FOOR DOOR MONDEO,SO SIZE ISNT ALWAYS THE CASE,I SPOKE TO A FIAT DEALER AND TOLD HIM ABOUT THE MAREA BEING FASTER THAN THE BRAVO HGT AND HE AGREED, HE SAID HE THE MAREA 2.0 20V HLX IS FASTER THAN THE BRAVO HGT AND HE HAS DRIVEN MANY MAREAS AND BRAVOS,HE THINKS THAT THERE IS TO MUCH DRAG ON THE BRAVO WERE AS THE MAREA IS MORE STREAM LINE AND AREODYINAMIC IT JUST CUTS THREW THE AIR!!!

O.K. ! YOUR MAREA 2.0 IS FASTER THAN HGT ( ! )

Dear David;

I've driven the same Marea that u'r talking about but the truth is :

- It's heavy; acceleration really differs
- Because of the weight balance;HGT responses more rapidly on the curves and steering is definitely dominant
- That legend about the aerodynamics is something to talk about. Do u know the aero.value (CV)of each car ?
U'll be surprised ! & This will be effective only over 150km/h. Over this speed the aero will work.
But believe me HGT has a better value !

Maybe; there's something wrong with your MAREA ?

See U !

P.S. Buy a HGT & welcome the real speed !

speed

hi

I'd like to say that I completely agree with Boorock about the aerodinamics. The shape of the car and aerodinamics aren't so important at lower speeds. The good example is if you look at honda civic Vti the hatchback and sedan. The hatch back has a better acceleration because it weights less, but the sedan has better top speed, because of the aerodinamics. But in speeds up to 100km/h the aerodinamics don't really matter.
so It must be a miracle that your marea is faster than HGT!
bye loggy

sorry to say that the marea is faster than the bravo hgt!!!!!!!!!!!

HAY IM REALLY SORRY IF IVE UPSET YOU BRAVO HGT DRIVERS BUT ALL IM SAYING IS THE FACTS FROM THE FICTION,HOW MANY MORE TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY,IVE DRIVEN BRAVOS HGT AND I CAN FEAL STRAIGHT AWAY HOW MUCH FASTER THE MAREA IS THAN THE BRAVO,ALSO ILL SAY AGAIN THAT IVE RACED BRAVOS HGT AT CRUISES BY ME, AND MY MAREA HAS REALLY LEFT THEM FOR DUST(AND YOU CANT SAY ALL THESE BRAVOS HAVE SCREWED ENGINES!),ALSO IVE SPOKEN TO A FIAT DEALER HO HAS DRIVEN MORE MAREAS AND BRAVOS THAN YOU HAVE HAD SUNDAY DINNERS,AND EVEN HE SAIDS THAT THE MAREA IS ALOT FASTER,SO MY FINAL MESSAGE IS THE BRAVO HGT IS A FAST CAR,BUT DONT EVER BOTHER TRY,ILL REPEAT TRY,TO RACE A VERY VERY VERY FAST FIAT MAREA 2.0 20V HLX,AS IT WILL LEAVE YOU BABY BRAVO FOR DUST.BYE BYE

P.S YOU SHOULD GO AND TEST DRIVE A MAREA,AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN!!!!!

P.S.S I WORK AS A PILOT AND I KNOW MOST THINGS ABOUT AREODYNAMICS AND AT LOW SPEED THATS WHEN YOU GET MORE DRAG FROM THE REAR OFF THE CAR,AND THATS WHATS GOOD ABOUT THE MAREA,ITS MORE STREAM LINE,THATS WHY ITS FASTER!!!!BYE BYE BRAVO DRIVERS

I don't think so

well if you look at the technical data which is measured from manufacturer, the acceleration of HGT is 8s and from marea is 8,6s. I think that those measurments are made of professional test drivers and are quite accurate. maybe you should be a test driver and the cars you would test would have 1s better acceleration.
loggy

I THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!!

OK SO YOU THINK THE MANUFACTURER IS ALWAYS WRITE,I DONT THINK SO SOME HOW.LOOK AT THESE FIGURES FROM SOME OFF THE REVIEWS THESE CAR MAGAZINES HAVE DONE ON DIFFRENT MAKES OFF CARS-

VAUXHALL CALIBRA TURBO MANUFACTURER SAIDS IT CAN DO 0-60 IN 6.1 SECONDS AND TOP SPEED OF 152MPH,BUT WHEN TOP GEAR MAGAZINE PUT THE CALIBRA ON THE DISUSED RUNWAY THEY MANAGE 0-60 IN 5.5 SECONDS AND TOP SPEED 159MPH,AND THE LIST COULD GO ON AND ON FOR OTHER MAKES OFF CARS THAT HAVE BEEN REVIEWD BY THESE MAGAZINES,A CAR WILL ALWAYS BE FASTER THAN WHAT THE MANUFACTURERS SAIDS,YOU SHOULD TRY AND READ SOME GOOD CAR MAGAZINES,INSTEAD OFF MAKEING THINGS UP IN YOUR HEAD ABOUT THE SPEED OFF CARS!!!!!!

come on, play nicely children

There's no need to get narky or anything like that. Please play nicely together. On average, HGT Bravos are quicker than the equivalent 2.0 Marea. There are, however, some cars that slip through the net and are either a lot quicker or a lot slower than manufacturers claims. So, your Marea is quicker than Fiat figures. Can we leave it at that now?

thankyou,
Paul

What a drag

As a pilot you should know that drag increases as the square of the airspeed. Therefore with two basically similar aerodynamic shapes (Bravo and Marea) there will be bog all difference up to about 70 mph, and you probably won't notice much above that, unless you drive with the doors open.

Just for interest, does anybody know how much extra drag is caused by driving with open windows/sunroof? That would give a good indication of how important drag is. If you are going flat out and wind the window down, and your speed drops by 20kmh then thats good evidence that drag is significant at that speed. Any takers to try this?

This has got more heated since i last visited

Okay Dave what did you start eh? Grown boys and girls claiming their cars are faster than the next.

Interesting to see some of your views. On the point of manafacture figures they put a
'realistic figure that all drivers could achieve'
So in other words 0-60 times are done some what conservitively. So someone who wants to thrsh (gently) their car are bound to knock of 0-60 times and add to the top end.
Not sure about anyone else but when i got my HGT (97R) the top speed was quoted as 127MPH yet i've had her at 135MPH as for 0-60 haven't measured it.
Its all getting technical with this drag business.
But one point to think about was the fact that Volvo used there estate in the first year they entered the touring cars as it had less drag than the saloon.

By the way i'm not saying anybodies right, i've got an HGT too not a Marea!

O Well

Fiat Panda

the other day I was at the lights in my Fiat Panda and next to me was a Bravo HGT. When the lights changed i put the pedal to the metal and left the said bravo for dead. I think he looked a good driver so obviously he just couldnt keep up. This means my Panda is quicker than a Bravo and I bet a Marea.
By The way my Panda has a spoiler and big alloy wheels on it. I've also got a stripe on the side and I go with other gonks to drive around car parks at night . It's sooooooooooooooooo cool (NOT).

Some people think people like me who argue about cars being 0.06 of a second faster than another are sad. They also think cruising around racing in a Marea and Bravo to be done only by gonks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fiat Panda

Hi Gonk I like your style!! Maybe we could race our Panda's but mine would be faster than yours, so there.
Bye, Bye

ALL OFF YOU CALM DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK SO BY THE LOOKS OFF THINGS STEVE D SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY COOL NORMAL PERSON IN THE FORUM.FOR STARTERS THAT GUY NEEDS TO TAKE HIS CRAP PANDA BACK TO JUNK YARD,AND AS FOR THR BRAVO-MAREA ISSUE,WELL LETS JUST SAY THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME SPEED AND 0-60s FOR PEACE AND SILENCE!!!!

Drag racing

I have read somewhere that open windows on any car add or rather decrease fuel economy by 10%. As an indicative figure I would say that drag could be said to also increase by a similar amount.

Totally agree that aerodynamics only really play a part at higher speeds.
As an example, new & newish Porsche 911's, VW Corrado and also the Lancia Thema with juicy Ferrari engine (remember that?) all have their active rear spoilers starting to come into play above 50 or so MPH. If aerodynamic forces were important at low speeds, I would think at least Lancia would be aware of this.
