Technical Marea intermittent rear wiper wont switch off

The rear wiper on my marea weekend is supposed to be intermittent with 1 wipe every 4 seconds. When it is on it works perfectly. when it is off it wipes very 10 seconds. I think the rate of sweep is controlled within the motor, but I can't work out how it is controlled or what has gone wrong, dose any one know how this works?
Is the controller in the motor faulty or is the switches on the dash faulty?

I fixed it. There is a timer on the back of the wiper motor in a little white plastic case. I didn't find this out until I bought a re conned one from Fiat at £65. I suspect there will be the same timer on many other fiat wiper motors, If you find a similar motor in the scrapers which may not fit your car, but it may be possible to swap the timer, even if the motor is seized.
