Technical marea engine swop

hi guys newbie here i have a 1997 marea 1.8 weekend that i am just about to take the engine out of and put into a 1999 1.8 weekend any problems i should be aware of?

i'm not sure if the 1.8 mk1 and mk2 had different engine or not :chin:

all the other petrol and diesels had varients of the earlier engine but there is usually a visual difference or power rating for the car, check the log books or side badges, are they both 115 on the side wing?

the 1999 model was the changeover year so could be either mk1 or mk2

I don't about the 1.8 but a 99 can be a MKII and on the 20V that means it different engine so a swap is difficult.
I know thats not much help.
Is your 99 a MKII or MKI? easiest way to tell is if it has the newer round FIAT badge on the front or the older parallelogram shaped one.

Dont think you have the badge years right mines a 2001 and had the bars a bit later 2001 changed to round one.

hiya guys they are both mark 1s they look identical in evey way including badges

I thought it was badges and dials were changed at the same time.

hi again anothher quick question if anyone can let me know can i get the engine out from above or do i have to drop it out the bottom?

sorry this wont be the most helpful thing in the world but the 20v is out the bottom only, i 'think' all the others are aswell but hard to say, probably depends if you have the gearbox still in the car aswell, it may squeeze out if your lucky

nealy done it all now decided to lift head off the engine does anyone know torque setings for the head bolts so i can get it tightened down correctly

quick update afte checking engines out i went for just cylinder head change had to replace cams as well due to excessive wear but all up and running now so another weekend returns to the road as my old one goes into the garage to sit and be used for bits many thanks to the help from people on here

ok here goes can anyone give me a clue how to set the timing up on the 1.8 petrol engine i have got it runnning but it doesnt seem right to me i diddnt use the cam blocks as i didnt have any but got old engine to tdc on number 1 and marked the head and cams up any clues???????
