Hi, how can i tell the engine size of a marea just by looking at it?
And if i changed my 2.0 20v to a smaller engine would i also have to change the ECU and have to mess about with the electrics before i could start it?

Cheers trev.

if you want to tell just by looking at it then you need to recognise the different engines from familiarity, or compare it to pics.

if you posted a pic on the forum we would all know which engine it is because they all look very different. have a look at a few pics in the members motors section and you too will be able to recognise them all.

if you fit a smaller engine you will also need a different ecu, and gearbox, and immob codebox, and keys. depending on which engine you fit there will also be other differences. your insurance will go up even if you fit an engine that would normally cost less to insure.

it would be easier and cheaper to sell it and buy a smaller engined marea.

I agree with jug, just not worth the hassle. If you want lower tax then changing the engine has no effect the car is always taxed on factory fit so it makes more sense to buy a small engined one and fit a turbo 20V:)
