General Marea automatic gearbox - Can't switch to modes 1 or 2

Hi,

As the title says - bought Marea Weekend 1.6 with automatic gear. Last night when I tried to swith to mode 1 (thinking it might help me get out of pile of snow) couldn't - Gear handle would go only as far as number "3".

Any ideas why ? Am I going to cough up a lot of money for repairs ?

This is my first car with the automatic gearbox - not even sure did I attempt a right thing (if someone could enlighten me about the modes (gears ?) "1" , "2" and "3" I'd appreciate it

might just be a linkage problem
