Hi there. I have been offered a marea 115 on which the cambelt has snapped. Does this usually take all the valves out on this model? Thanks.

Hello mate and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

The engine is not a "safe" engine and therefore it may well have taken all of the valves out. However, out of most of the snapped cambelts ive seen on the 115's very few have done major damage. All depends on when it snapped etc really. 2nd gear doing an overtake and your likely to have damage. At idle or pulling away, might be lucky!!

Hope that helps,
Alan

Thanks chaps. Any problems with a DIY job, like special tools needed? Can you recommend any parts suppliers for valves etc?

A cam locking tool to lock the engine at TDC will make it easier for you to find the engines timed position.

Other than that a good variety is spanners and sockets, and make sure you have a good set of male Torx bits up to T60 and you should be sound(n)

Yes ribe bits, also need a good low torque wrench for the alloy engine, I had to buy a new one when I got my 1.8 to accurately do the plugs. (I used to set the iron engine wrench just under the min setting to do the Citroens plugs and got away with it up to 250K miles but please dont tell anyone.:)) We really like our 115 Weekend it goes well and is light on fuel and have owned it for the past 7 years.
