cheers in advance for any replies

sorry, can't help with the problem. Just a thought though, have you given any thought to how many disappointed people are now checking your thread having googled 'weekend, noisy, banging'???
:eek::ROFLMAO:
good luck with the Marea though. Always had a soft spot for 'em. Underrated cars.

Surfsup , iv heard the the suspension can 'go' on weekends , this could be your mysterious banging noise-(click on search on the top of the page and try weekend suspension + such like to see what comes up) but have you had the bonnet open and basically jumped up/down on the car to simulate a speed bump to try n track down the noise , as for the grinding noise on full lock it could be the c.v joints/wheel bearings, best to get em looked at mate as they can be a cause of mot failure, hope this helps .

Making a noise going over big speed bumps.... mine makes a noise going over big speed bumps because the plastic shield under the engine scrapes on the road. I know it sounds too simple but could it be that the front your car is grounding?

Hello,

Clunking noises over bumps is usually a sign that one or both of the bottom ball joints is/are knackered. My old Tempra TD used to eat the things and my Marea is proving to be no different. It involves replacement of the whole bottom arm assembly. They cost about £40-50ish each and a DIY change is possible if you know what you are doing. I would advise that both are replaced at the same time because if one has gone, the other will not be far behind.

The clicking at full lock is a classic sign of a CV joint problem. I have never done one of those on a Marea (or any car) so I cannot advise but I do know that removal of a Marea driveshaft involves removing the hub nut and wheel bearing unit.

Good luck

Ian
