Just noticed on a check round that the rubber pipes to my MAP sensor
are perished and cracked in places....
Anybody know the internal bore dimension of these pipes off hand?
Don't want to take it off to measure it as it will likely drop to bits

Going to grab some of that clear plastic stuff from B&Q later today if that
will be OK?

For a temp fix just cut the perished bit off and re join - -there us usually enough spare length.

THen you can take the bit you have cut to your local motor factors for a match

It's pretty much had it for a third of it's length..
Anyhoo, it fell off as expected and I did a temporary bodge with some plastic
thick walled pipe I bought for brake bleeding...
Took the rubber remains down to Auto Supplies round the corner but they have nothing like it.
What he did have were some little 8mm hose clips so they made the plastic pipe more secure..

Right, will trawl the Tinternet to see if there is some available.
Outer diam is 8mm and inner is about 4mm....

Sounds like a crappy auto supplies shop. They normally have something.

That silicone hose will do fine

Funnily enough, I called in Euro Car Parts in Chesterfield to grab a blue
temperature sensor (one that feeds back to the EMC) that they had for £9.50.
Asked in there and they don't do that pipe either

Must have been leaking for a while as now the car runs and idles much smoother
with the fish tank plastic pipe bodge

With vacuum and heat, the clear plastic pipe could collapse and create running issues. Thick walled or reinforced pipe is a must.

Yes, that's the worry I had although, the temporary plastic stuff is thick walled.
Still, the new silicone pipe will be here in the morning..(y)

Only thing to watch out for with silicone is that most grades don't like oil or petrol. They can go soft and swell up. Hopefully as that one is from a car specialist it should be OK.

Didn't know that, thanks for the heads up....(y)

New pipe arrived and fitted.
8mm out/4mm inner is a perfect fit. Doesn't realy need the clips but I
had them so left them on.

Also put in a new MAP sensor (£12 new off the tinternet).
I'm changing all the sensors one by one. They are all original and I thought
it best to swap them whilst they were working so I had a collection of used but OK
sensors for any future fault finding...

Onwards and upwards :D
