Dear All,

Firstly what a fab site this is have been guided by this sites users for a few weeks now but still struggling. Please can anyone help? Here is my problem I have a 2002 punto 1.2 the problem started with the car running on 2 cylinders i immediatly thought coils so checked and found that there was no power going to one of them first reaction was that the coil had gone and spiked the ecu. My friend has the same car so i took his ecu, lock set and the fuse box next to the steering wheel and fitted them to my car as he was scrapping his. now the car does not seem to want to start when i turn the Key all dash lights com on but the code light does not go out the car does turn over but and the dies out. I have also fitted a new clutch, centre piece of exhaust, plugs and leads in past month. Please help if you can it would save me goping balder that this is making me. Thank you all

no i just fitted the one that was round my ignition is that the problem? I do not know if i will still be able to get that now either it may have been scrapped. i still have my original key so will i be able to swap the transponder chip from that one into the new key or even just tape it near the ignition some where?

Thank you for your reply

well, i was testing other ecu on my car, what i did, i took spare ecu, plugged in to car, than i disconnected fat plug from box at the fuse box, connected to box from spare ecu set, and it had own wire with ring, i just sellotaped spare car key to ring, and stashed behind fuse box cover. you must have spare car key, or at least immobilizer beside ignition ring, or inside your car key, if you using your own ring.

Possibly a bit of a rash decision to swap everything, having your old ecu repaired (assuming there was ever actually a problem with it) would have been an easier more elegant solution.

What year/spec was your friends car? If yours is a Mia (stated in other thread) then it is the very most bottom range car so missing much of the electronics of other models.

Check and recheck all wiring, mplugs and sockets. Someone on here bent and broke some ecu pins the other day and had similar problems.

My best suggestion would be to go back to what you had and get things repaired.

Why did your mate scrap his car??

my mates was not a mia but the only difference i could see was his had electric windows and has a black relay box on the fuse box next to the steering wheel he scrapped it because the gearbox went and could not be bothered fixing. Thank you for these replies much appreciated. I will try this when i get home from work and update later. thanks again

Fiats have a habit of having to have everything coded so you might have to get the new ecu re-coded to run on your car my friend, not cheap either.......

It only needs the ecu key & barrel plus the diagnostic fuse box, so you might have the wrong ecu for the car match up the part numbers if possible or just make sure that they both were cars with or without the top camshaft sensor on top of the cam box cover. Good luck, domino40

theoretically if you have fitted the
ecu
double fuse box in the car (for clarity sake)
and ignition barrel
then mates key should start the car

you might have dash problems fitting the central locking electric windows ecu though but proof will be once you get it running

hi people, thanks all for the help so far. I have finally got the car running now dont know what i did wrong but just took all parts off that i put on ond fitted again with extra care to make sure all fitted correctly. Guess what the car started with just the key that come with the new barrel- maybe a plug not fitted correctly. i took it for a little test drive and the engine now seems to run fine, quietest its been since i had it. still have a few problems though and was wondering if anyone could help.

1. i can here a ticking noise in the car- faster than a clocks second but same sound
2. a rattling noise in idle that goes when clutch pressed - recently had a full clutch kit but the old one was in pieces when replaced
3. when approching 35mph to 40mph the car seems to bounce and gets more prominent the faster i go
4 a bit of a crunch in 1st and 2nd gear
5. engine management light on still

sorry for the list but i am just trying to sort this car out as i believe it has had no tlc before i got it.

Thank you all for the help so far and any replies would be much appreciated
