Making my sound system sound better

stu, am i right in saying that I should just drop the treble (higher frequencies) if cymbals etc are too harsh?

Yep that would be the one. Just keep playing. Make small adjustments and listen for a while. If its not right then put it back. I've learnt it doesn't help making lots of massive changes in quick concession. It's all about small changes and giving it time to really listen. I moved my time alignment one click a few days ago and I'm still mulling it over.
