Would the 4X4 gearbox mate with the Marbella?? Just a though as it would save engine changes and welding Panda engine mounts in place on the Marbella.

I don't honestly know (I'd guess Pandafan is your man for serious information about 4x4s) but...
if you kept the Marbella engine you're going to be down on power:
the 4x4 is tuned to give 50 bhp (to accomodate the losses with all the extra cogs turning around), compared with 45 out of a 2x4 Panda (or Marbella).

You can't easily marry the Marbella gearbox up: sorry, but the complete unit really is your best option.
Don't worry about welding and such stuff; the engine mount only needs to be drilled and bolted to a standard 'Panda' inner wing. It is a modification that my last insurance company were very happy with, as long as a Fiat mechanic accredited it.

UPDATE....................

I bidded on one of the Marbella's but backed out at £80. There are 2 more on there which are in my eBay "Watch List" so I'll let you all know.

It went for 82UKP to "whosscooby".

Hard to guess how much further it might have gone if you'd kept bidding.
