Hi y'all
Had diagnostic at main dealer for engine system light and fault code says the MAF is faulty. They quoted £182 inc VAT for the job, gawd bless the main dealers, you'd think they'd wear a mask when they rob you!
Now my question is can a chap of average mechanical knowledge with a limited tool box buy the part and replace it himself?
I suppose I need to take a mechanics course now I'm a Multi owner!

Your thoughts please :)

Hi there. Thats sounds a lowish price for a job by the main dealer which means it hasn't got a great amount of labour involved ergo can't be too difficult one would think!

However, I haven't got a clue about the job but have you tried searching the forum for MAF and see what comes up?

Wish you luck!

The MAF sensor is a very easy replacement.
Assuming yours is a diesel- there's one on eBay- item 130284061685.
Looking at the picture of the sensor- it's basically a tube through which the intake air flows, so it has clips either end holding it to the air intake pipes, and an electrical connection.
The hardest part is unclipping the electrical connector! - it has a latch on the underside- needs a thin screwdriver blade to unlatch it.
Just a thought- are you certain it's the MAF sensor, and not the MAP sensor?
That is a little more time consuming to replace, but still easy.

Thanks for that,
The diagnostic recorded a MAF fault and the symptoms seem to corroborate that. I am going to stick it in the garage this once then get a new tool box as I think I am going to need it! Is there such a thing as a Haynes manual for the Multi?

:( Nope! :( Wish there was. However there are some cd's available on Ebay and at the prices they are you may as well get them.

Also, people on this forum and also http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/multiplaowners/ are happy to talk you through any jobs that you may want to have a bash at.

All sorts of info on owning and running a Multi and we're a friendly lot so don't be discouraged!

Most people are members of both forums I expect so join up for free and enjoy! (y)
