Well my GP has reached three years old.

The third year service cost me AUD$410 (GBP230), which wasn't too steep I don't think.

The front brake discs and pads is at 10% and needs to be replaced ASAP - it can last another 2-5,000 kms.

Dealer quoted either AUD$1,097 (GBP230) for "genuine" ones and AUD$760 (GBP426) for "non-genuine" ones - both seemed like massive rip offs so I said don't worry about it.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Now that its out of warranty should I just go to an independent garage, or buy a set from eBay and get someone to replace them?

Cheers! :)

The GP is now made in India, wonder if spares would be cheaper from there?

Mine also has done around 18,000km now and is a dualogic gearbox so wear and tear on brake pads are higher, dreading the thought of replacing the brake pads at my 20,000km service which is coming up by early next year

not hard to DIY discs and pads

(hardest part is pushing the piston back...)

put a BIG flat screw driver between the disc and pad

attach a bit of rubber pipe to the bleed nipple into a jar

open nipple 1/2 turn with a ring spanner

leaver the piston back with the screw driver

close nipple

remove pads *(as per my guide on squeeky brakes)*

then the calliper carrier 17mm bolts IIRC

next soak the 2 torx bolts int eh centre of the disc for a while

then undo them

then replace all parts in reverse order

check brake fluid level in master cylinder bottle

pump brakes till firm

check fluid level again

cary out several slow stops to check all is working

then take care for a few hundred K's to allow pads and disc to bed in before max power is obtained

Never changed the brakes on a GP but I usually just use a cold chisel sat inside the caliper with a big screwdriver or similar to get enough levarage, long as the tops off the brake fluid it's been ok.

Never changed pads on a system with ABS though, are they stiffer or is it just a GP thing.

Yes, if you're going to do it yourself, the most important bit is to pump the brake pedal once you're done.

I just had my 45,000 service done. It's a major one and cost me about $640 AUD including some extras I wanted done, a blown globe in the dash, etc.

I'm a pretty spirited driver most of the time and apparently my brakes will need changing on the next service - 60,000 km. Both the front discs and pads will need changing. I'm not looking forward to that, so I'm interested in doing it myself with good or better aftermarket stuff. And I'm quite surprised the pads made it this far. I was expecting them to be replaced at the first service (15,000 km)

Are there any recommendations for the 1.9 MultiJet GP aftermarket discs and pads that are better and hopefully cheaper? I'm happy to pay for performance if it means even better braking.
